Favorite Anthony?

This was just a random question that popped in my head, (that might not interest very many people) but who is your fave?

I'd have to say my favorite Anthony is Davis Gaines. He captures the part well and has a good, strong voice to carry the songs.

Chris is my favrite. a perfect combination of lechery and innocence.

although I havent seen victor garber..alas just heard him on my OBC.

Ditto.

And even though Davis is my favorite, Cris would have to be a close second. (Even though I've only seen clips from the 1982 DVD. Sad)

Groenendaal is the best Anthony I've heard singing-wise... I like how they raised the key of "Johanna" for him...

Garber probably acted the role excellently, but he isn't that amazing a singer...

Gaines seemed to struggle with the high-notes, he should have sung "Johanna" in the original key, but he was overall good...

Magnuson is very good too, I think he should used the higher to in "Johanna"..

Let's say Groenendaal.

From the way the poll looks, it seems like no one likes Anthony in the Revival very much...

why would they he was blandin character, and not even a great vocalist.

Are you reffering to the actor or the character himself?

I didn't care for the revival's Anthony at all..."Johanna" is a song I love and I was eager to hear it when I saw the show this time last year. I was bored to tears at how bland his performance was.

Of those on the poll list, I'd go with Victor Garber...I remember having the record a long time ago and really liked him.

I also loved Hugh Panaro in the Kennedy Center version about five years ago.

I liked Victor too. He is good. (Although I like Davis better Rolling Eyes)

I LOVE Cris!

I just saw him perform at Marywood University in Scranton PA on Sunday.

He is a great Anthony (Though he didn't sing "Johanna")

I love Davis Gaines voice, but Cris from the DVD is just soooooo...Frederic from Pirates of Penzance. I love it. I honestly think at times Anthony was meant to be the comic relief. I don't like the key The revival or Victor Garber sing Johanna in, but I'm sure Victor Garber was fantastic as always (he'll always be my favorite JW Booth)

I voted for Victor Garber - he is so expressive on the original cast recording! It's interesting to read the comments about the revival. I am in the UK and saw the touring version of the John Doyle production (i.e. what everyone refers to as the "revival" version). The person playing Anthony was Greg Barnett and he was just superb - excellent actor, singer and cellist. And he had real chemistry with Johanna, played in the UK tour by Joanna Hickman.
