Fancy recording a demo song?

Hi, All...

I am writing a musical based on the Just William stories (they're very famous in England) and I need one of the talented female singers out there to record this pretty tricky song I've written for it.

The character singing the song is a 6 year old girl - with a lisp (this has to be part of the character, I'm afraid). I didn't include the lisp style text in the lyrics, but we all know what words to lisp. (IE - Where I've written "scream" - the singer must say "thcream" etc)

Here are links to the files you will need:

http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/96960/-ll-scream-pdf.html (This is the piano and vocal score in PDF Format)

http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/96963/-m-sick--mid.html (Here is a MIDI file featuring piano track and melody track)

http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/96966/-ll-scream-piano-mid.html (Here is the piano track)

I'd be very greatful if anyone could try their best to record this song, as I need to hear what it sounds like. I am not a good singer, and this song doesn't suit my voice...so I am curious.

Please leave any questions you have here.

Thanks.

I've just had a listen and I've got a couple questions.

You would like the singer to actually hit the high notes in a singing voice...or more of an annoying shreik?

And...what kind of vocal quality were you going for. I'm assuming more of a look what a brat I am Annie sound as opposed to a Cossete? Or could the person sing it in their normal voice?

What would you prefer?

Also...I get the gist of the character, I'm just a little bit confused about the part where she says "so fetch a mop quick" what is she referring to? Why do they need to get a mop?

Thank you for your questions.

I think for the high parts before the big ending - it would be nice for them to be a bit shrill - not perfect...you know?

Yes - the voice doesn't need to be perfect. This is a lisping six year old singing an angry song. I wouldn't say Annie is a good thing (as she's American - and this character's British) - I would say my main influence would be Voilet (no relation) Bulregard from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - and her song "I want it now".

However, there should be two contrasts in this song. It should really build up in brattyness. The verses should be sung very sweetly - and each chorus should be done in a bigger rage - until at the end (where the dynamics in the score state) she gets louder and louder - until the big A at the end - where (though she does sing the A perfectly) is angry.

Here - the term "sick" simply means to puke up - so what she's saying is "I will scream until I vomit" - so, hence the reason to fetch a mop - so you can be prepared to clean up the vomit.

I hope this answers your question. I am actually going to re-write the song TODAY (just some of the lyrics) so, if you do wish to record it - let me get the re-write done - and then I will post it back up here.

Thank you for your interest.

I'd love to help you out, but somehow the links aren't working for me Crying or Very sad ...

Okay - well, the links work for me...but, those links don't matter now - as I've re-worked the song.

Here are the new links!

Awaiting the new set of lyrics. Laughing

And just reference. You meant Veruca Salt.
nickhutson

Veruca - sorry! That's the one!

All the stuff you need is in my last post - new score (with the new lyrics) and new MIDI backing tracks.

Let me know if there are any problems.

Thanks!

I like the new lyrics a LOT better. So GREAT!
