Family GuyFor a mainstream show, it incorporates so many musical theatre jokes in it ,and I think that it is totally relevant to this forum and just plain awesome!what do you think of that, and the show in general? |
||||
| Kiwi |
I know! I love how many musical theatre quips they include. I think my favorite one ever is when Peter is looking back on his years in high school and how he wasn't accepted and there's a flashback to a bunch of guys from West Side Story...I laughed for about 10 minutes straight. I love Family Guy.

I love Family Guy!
I remember once hearing the tune to "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from Gypsy coming from another room one night. I rushed in to find a parody of the song on the show. |
||||
| jarrod001 |
One of my favorite parts of Family Guy is when they parody musicals. My favorite is when Peter scores a touchdown and they do Shipoopi.... Like full on Shipoopi! I was laughing so hard and it was amazing how they did it all... Another one was when Stewie and Brian are in the army and start doing mambo from west side story.
OOOOHH and when they see Phantom and Peter's like "SHOW US THE GROSS HALF OF YOUR FACE!" AND WHEN HE RUNS OVER THE DANCERS DURING A PERFORMANCE OF CATS IS THE BEST AND HES LIKE OMG SORRY IT JUST JUMPED OUT ON ME..........Love it. And when Stewie and Brian see Kirk Cameron as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. And the deleted thing with Osama singing I hope i get it is funny too And when the creeper guy sings Somewhere That's Green about Chris. I'll stop now |
||||
| Sweeney Hyde |
I nearly peed when they did the Brigadoon spoof.
| Kiwi |
Ahh, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I watched the Somewhere That's Green clip, it was so funny but so creepy.
| Annie |
"YOU ARE THE WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO MUSICAL THEATRE SINCE ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER!!!"
best. quote. ever. |
||||
| Kiwi |
oh yeah!!!!! I loved that soooo much.
| pish123c |
How about when Lois tried to put on a production of The King and I and Peter took over and completely butchered it? |
||||
| Kiwi |
yeah, that was the same episode with the ALW quote.
| krisavalon |
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the My Fair Lady parody. One of my favorite episodes.
| jarrod001 |
Haha that's another great on. "The loife of the woife is ended by the knoife." ALLO MOTHA, HAVE YOUI IDDEN MY ATCHET LMAO |
||||
| pish123c |
I forgot about that one! I love that episode. |
||||
| ilovebway |
I love Family Guy!
I love all of the parodies. My favorites are the "Somewhere That's Green" parody, when Peter crashes his car in the middle of a performance of CATS, and the The King & I episode. Also, does any one remember in the "Road To Rhode Island" song that Stewie and Brian sing? So funny. |
||||
| musictheatre00 |
I love "Road to Rhode Island"!And anybody remember the "Brand New Day" parody when all the people in Qauhog unzip themselves and are dancing in like underwear like in the movie, it was so funny because my high school was doing "The Wiz" at the time and it made me almost piss my pants!

HA!thank you! I forgot how Trisha Takanowa just stands there, that's like the funniest part of the whole thing!
| musictheatre00 |
btw, in my opinion, I think Lois Griffin should sing "Anything Goes" in an episode of Family Guy. How about you guys?
| Snow_White |
I absolutely LOVE the part in the film when Stewie breaks out into fully-on I Have Confidence with the hair and the guitar and...I loved it.
I totally agree. |
||||
| happyguava |
I love Family Guy. Actually I just got home from buying season 2. Hehe, yay!
| Anno_Domini |
"This is worse than Seussical"
lol "(repeated in "army march" form) West Side Story, Anything Goes Two of our favorite Broadway shows Miss Saigon and Cabaret Overrated, I must say ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR (begin "West Side Mambo)" LOL "Shipoopi!" LMAO! |
||||
| Annie |
Oh!! And the one where they inherit Lois' family's mansion......
I can't find it on youtube, but it's "This House is Freakin' Sweet". |
||||
| musictheatre00 |
Another great song from Family Guy! I must proclaim, family Guy has some great music behind it, has anyone listened to the Live in Las Vegas CD?Great Stuff!
| Catherine |
Awww, I've only seen the My Fair Lady parody.
But I have seen the Scrubs West Side Story parody, which is very funny http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iBcWt407iTE |

How about when Meg, Chris and Stewie sing "So Long, Farewell" to Peter and Lois before going to bed. It really makes you realise how cheesy The Sound of Music is lol
I loved that!! I'm putting it in my signature! |
||||
| musicalfan07 |
I love Stewie's "I've Grown Accustomed to her Face." It just works so beautifully in his Rex Harrison Voice!
| Salome |
Stewie's voice is a dead ringer for Noel Coward.
one of my favorite lines is peter's "He's taken everytning from me...my name,my job, the way i wear my hat (pause)..no,no, they cant take that away from me." |
||||
| ActingDude17 |
What about when Stewie hops onto his future self's back when he's going back to his own time and gets sent into the future? He doesn't like his future self, and he gets him to bend to the rhythm of,
"I am the monarch of the sea, ruler of the Queen's Navy" From Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore (which I'm currently in right now). |
||||
| Kragey |
Stewie's Rex Harrison moments give me total gigglefits. |
||||
| DontDoSadnessxx |
I saw that episode for the first time the other day and I was pissing myself. I went around singing it for the rest of the week =D |
||||
| DaddyDiesel |
It wasn't my favorite but the parody of grease stood out in my mind.
"I need a jew" I Cant remember what that parody was of but it was hilarious. Bryan and stewie surpiseingly both have great voices. I know the voice of bryan is actually the creators voice, Seth mcfarlene. I dont know if he is doing the actual singing but if he is that is awesome. |
||||
| krisavalon |
I believe that "I Need A Jew" was a parody of "When You Wish Upon A Star." Seth McFarlane is ridiculously talented. Not only does he provide the voice of Brian, but also Stewie, and Peter, and Quagmire, and Tom Tucker, and several others. |
||||
| Sweeney Hyde |
In the original pilot from 1995, when the show was called "The Life of Larry and Steve" I believe, there is a West Side Story joke dealing with Star Trek characters...ha.

Oh gosh, I love family Guy. I love the Shipooi parody
| musictheatre00 |
wow there are so many jokes from the series in that "Life of larry" (Family Guy) pilot.
| ilovebway |
Does anyone remember the song that Brian sings when he is supposed to be taking care of an old woman who happened to be an opera singer? It was really funny. The name of the song escapes me at the moment...
Anyone know which one I'm talking about? |
||||
| musictheatre00 |
ya the one where Brian sings about all of the stuff that the opera singer missed out on while she was in her house. I think it is called "You Got A Lot To See"
| ilovebway |
Yeah, that's the one!
I really loved that song. It was hilarious. |
||||
| Beagle On Stage |
The musical theatre spoofs actually are not my favorite "Family Guy" moments, but a lot of them are hilarious.
I think it's earlier in the "You've Got a Lot to See" episode that Lois is giving a piano lesson and Brian comes in with romance issues and they do Marion and Mrs. Paroo. That's one of my favorites. "You know, Lois, I'm actually not comfortable discussing this amelodically." |
||||
| DaddyDiesel |
LOL, I just read that adam west actually does mayor wests voiceover.
I would agree that my favorite clipare not the musical ones though. All though dark and bloody, the bugs bunny clip had me laughing for quite some time. |
||||
| candymancan |
That one killed me it is so ridiculously funny! I love all the Sound of Music ones, especially when Stewie is singing I Have Confidence, it makes me giggle so much! I love Family Guy! |
||||
| Anno_Domini |
"You Got A Lot To See" is, without a doubt, the best original song I've heard from Family Guy. Hell, it's even better than the spoof songs (except "Shipoopi", that was just epic).
It's just such a fun song, lyrically and musically, and Seth MacFarlane has a great baritone |
||||
| musictheatre00 |
Seth MacFarlene really is a great singer. I think the best thing about Family Guy's music is that it isn't all wacky cartoon style, it's serious and classy, so it rounds the show out.
| Lady'sMaid |
I got so excited when I saw this topic! I love Family Guy and all its random musical theatre references. You guys already mentioned most of my favorites("this is worse than seussical", "brand new day", and "somewhere thats green"), but you can't forget about the pimple that says "feed me" and the song Peter and James Woods sing parodying "You Two" from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
| musictheatre00 |
I never thought I would get so many responses when I made this topic, I'm so happy that it did!I guess I can say that Family Guy is a bond shared by many involved in musical theatre?
| Monsieur D'Arque |
The most obscure has to be their famous song "The Freakin' FCC," which was later rewritten for an Emmy Awards special "You Can Find It On TV." It's a parody of "Volunteer Fireman's Picnic" from "Take Me Along."
The "Find It On TV" version is better than the David Merrick original. |
||||
| Anno_Domini |
That was probably the best Emmy performance I've ever seen, bar none
Pretty sad, considering that they were animated characters |
||||
| jarrod001 |
THATS ON RIGHT NOW on adult swim...Well where I live... |
||||
| emmy05 |
i didn't know much about it at first didn't think id end up liking it, but tuned in one day and caught the somewhere thats green episode. so funny!
| katethegreat |
Family Guy is relaxation therapy for me! If I'm stressed I'll sit and watch 4-5 episodes in a row...a lot of them on no-so-legal websites There's definitely at least one musical fan writing that show! I'm so glad it was re-commissioned - apparently due to pressure from my side of the pond! |
||||
| Matthew |
I believe this is one of the greatest comedies of our time.
| musictheatre00 |
In the episode where Brian tries to be treated like a human citizen and not a second class member of society as a dog, the Griffins are driving in the car and brian and Peter are fighting about it, and Lois tries to break the tension and says "Who wants to sing some showtunes?" and satrts singing "Anything Goes". |
||||
| jax1491 |
I agree.
That's all. You guys said everything. But now I really want to watch Family Guy. |
||||
| BwayJuvinile |
How have we missed this so far.... my all time #1 family guy moment of all time
stewie and gene kelly singing and dancing to the worry song! |
||||
| pennypingleton1994 |
My favorite was in the "King and I" episode when Peter says, "If you want to do a bad show, just do Rent." I love Rent, but I thought that was hilarious!
| BroadwayObssessed |
OMG! That's like one of the few Family Guy episodes I have seen...I laughed so hard at that. |
||||
| musicalfan07 |
I love that! I just find it amazing how well the animation works with previous footage! I would love to see the original version (ie. without Stewie) and see what it was like at first! |
||||
| candymancan |
I did forget! That is so cool! I was trying to figure out how they did that... Apparently it was some old show with a cartoon character that they just posted Stewie over. |
