The Drama Queen

Family Friendly??

I'm completely unfamiliar with this show, except for the performance of Patti LuPone at the Tony's, but I would really like to see the revival on Broadway. The only way I can do that is by convincing my parents, and I don't know whether the show is family-friendly enough for them to approve. Mainly, is there a lot of swearing, or "dirty" jokes that my conservative parents would be shocked at? Or adult content?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Well, it is the story of a young woman who becomes a high-class stripper. She doesn't take everything off, but her costumes can be pretty skimpy. There are some dirty jokes when the plot moves to the first burlesque theater as well.

I wouldn't mind taking a kid over twelve to see it, but I'm not conservative.

I am a father of teenage daughters who considers himself to be somewhat conservative when it comes to raising my children. I would not hesitate to take my children to see Gypsy. They see much more risque stuff on TV all the time. The stuff on WB, Desperate Houswives, Gray's Anatomy, etc. far exceeds anything in Gypsy.

The important thing to remember about Gypsy is that it is not a story about a stripper. It is a story about her mother, and what to extremes her mother will go in order to live vicariously through her children. As such it is an excellent piece of theatre as well as commentary on life.
