Evita?

I just found out my high school is doing Evita in the fall- can anyone fill me in on the show, or direct me to a website that could? Thanks in advance!!!!

Evita? in high school? why? there are only 4 principal roles. and 3 are men.

They seem to know quite a bit about EVITA in the EVITA forum, oddly enough.

well, I feel like an idiot... as I rightly should. I must have missed the Evita forum when I quickly scanned.

And I did google it, but I thought maybe people would have had personal experiences to share- but maybe not. Whatever.

And my high school is weird. TIn the past few years, they've done: Hair, Cabaret, Scarlet Pimpernel, Nine, Sweeney Todd, Pippin, Seussical, and now Evita. It's a varied track record, basically.

Cabaret? Sweeney Todd? Lucky bitches. Sorry that was rude.

But the other shows a) make sense in casting a high school show (except Nine with only one male)...Evita only has 4 main roles. the rest are stuck in ensemble.

You guys ahave an awsome director though to do shows like Sweeney,Cabaret and Pippin in high school.

Hey you're lucky to be able to do a musical in highschool. My school really doesn't care about the fine arts even though we have a great theater department, it's probably the best in the Pacific, but I'm probably partial. Anyway, we can't get out music department to help us do a show. So we are stuck not being able to do any musicals.

I have personal experience with Evita. My advice is to make sure the coffin is head side up, otherwise people laugh when you open it up to reveal dead Evita's feet.

Tough show for a high school... hope you have an awesome Che and Eva.

P.S. I think I'm in love with Angry Woman.

how is this show going? Is your director cutting any lyrics or songs because of some strong language? I am considering this show to direct next year and want more feedback on how appropriate it can be for high school . . .

Our Evita was sixteen. She was an amazing singer, but lacked any deep acting. Her Evita was a one-dimensional bitch, and that's just the fact. Our Peron was older, but had never done musical theatre before, but got Peron okay. I was Peron's Mistress, and as mentioned was around 14.

I think you could do it, but you might have to beat your Evita into the role, especailly if she is more singer then actress, as highschools tend to cast their shows.

OOoh. And I wanna hear about some censorship!

I can't say I agree with being "stuck" in the ensemble. Having just been in this show as an ensemble member, I can say I've never had more fun in a show. You get to play a dozen different characters, and a variety of emotions. The show really doesn't work without a strong ensemble, and it really is a rewarding experience for anyone in the ensemble.

There's not that much strong language, is there? There's only the couple of times they say b*tch in 'Peron's Latest Flame' and (if this even really counts) when Eva says whore in 'Rainbow Tour'.

I performed in Evita at a professional theater this past summer. I literally was either on stage or moving scene shifts, or changing costumes during the entire show. You definately work once you're cast in this show.
Salome

early in my career i wasi n the ensemble of EVITA twice. trust me..its being stuck. the ensemble has to move scenry, sing some of tim rices bad lyrics and not have a moments rest between costume changes. its hell.
