Evita for Highschoolers . . .

Is this feasible? I am getting the perusal to see how much would be unacceptable, but I would love to get feedback here!

I think your first problem would be finding a high schooler who could carry the role of Evita.

Your second problem would be the fact that there's really only one main female role (I'm not counting Peron's mistress as she's only in one scene).

Certain songs, like "Peron's Latest Flame," have parts not appropriate for a high school audience...

Not to mention "Eva, Beware of the City" is about an adult male seducing a young teenager...

Unless this is a performing arts school, I don't think I'd attempt it.

Honestly I do have a girl who could carry the role of Eva--I am looking hard to find a truly enriching and challenging role for her.

I suppose I could ask R&H about the possibilities of cutting a song or two . . . if that is possible.

Are you also ready to deal with all of the pissed off girls who are expecting a role and only get into the chorus?

Also, you can't get rid of any of the songs - they help tell the story. The true story. How else do you understand how Eva came to live in Buenos Aires... or how the army and upper class viewed her? All very important.

There are many shows with great female roles. I'd look elsewhere.

go with sunset boulevard if you want a challenging role for her

Actually, I would LOVE to do Sunset, except the rights don't seem to be available anywhere:(

You might try a high school version of Evita.

If my memory serves me, the chorus' parts are also pretty challenging, even if you have an Evita.
Salome

Challanging role? try Lucille in Parade...Eliza in my Fair Lady...Jenny or Polly in Threpenny Opera. all great roles in great meaty shows.

^What does that have to do with anything??

Anyways, I just saw Evita at a HS (not fine arts high school), and it was PHENOMENAL. Just do it. Laughing

already been stated, but the problem with Evita in HS is that it's a star show. There are only 3 roles really: Evita, Che, and Peron. Everybody else is chorus, with maybe a few lines. So any expectant potential leads would quit (from my experience) instead of letting themselves "be demoted" to Chorus.

I agree with Salome: give the girl a real challenge and let her take on Eliza from My Fair Lady. Besides, it has other great roles (Professor Higgins, Colonel Pickering), as well as a few supporting/minor roles (Alfred Doolittle, Freddy Eynsford Hill, Mrs. Pierce, Mrs. Higgins), unlike Evita.

Although, if you don't have talented males as well as a talented female, don't do MFL. Higgins calls for a dry, witty acting style and very unique style of speak/singing in his songs, and the different accents are difficult for many people.
