You can claim anything is "loosely" based on anything as long as there is some miniscule thread that you could see as similar if you wanted to. In this case, I'm guessing it's something about Bottom and Titania being from different cliques.

I would say it's based more off Romeo and Juliet if anything....

To be honest, I've never sat through the whole thing. But from what I've seen and heard, it seems like Zac Efron is a jock and What's her name naked pictures is a nerd, but they both want to be in the play, and everyone learns that it's okay to break social constraints, and that dog-faced bitch gets cake on her.

Though if that isn't a good basic summary, by all means, someone stop me.

That's the first movie. The second movie is set in a fancy country club, where the entire student body of the school from the first movie has gotten summer jobs. Zac Efron and "What's her name naked pictures" are an "item". But the "dog-faced bitch" likes Zac Efron, and her daddy runs the country club. So she gets Zac Efron promoted and tries to win him from "What's her name naked pictures", which pisses "Whats her name naked pictures" off and they have another "heart-breaking split" like from the first movie. Add some awful singing and the theme of "let's all be friends" and happily ever after. That's how I remember it based on the one time I've seen it.

And HSM Jr. was a crapfest on stage. HSM2 Jr. will be a double crapfest on stage.
