encouragement for someone auditioning out of her league?

Because I'm creepy, I found out about some of the other gals who will be at the callback I'm attending this Friday. I google them and find out they've played Bianca in Shrew (the character I'm auditioning for) at offbroadway theaters or attended some ginormgantically presitigious classical acting school in Englad or whatnot.

I've never even been in a single damn Shakespeare show in my life. Read a ton of it in college as english major, but I have no classical acting training.

I'm so effing intimidated now. I'm sort of like why am I going at all? Why am I studying Shrew and doing character studies instead of doing laundry and sleeping and eating?

I know there's good reasons why I should go and give it a shot. But somebody please remind me of them. I'm feeling depressed and scared...

This is a bit different since it's not Shakespeare particularly but my little cousin, who has never been in any professional shows, auditioned for the American Girl tour and was up against other girls her age who had been in Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. My cousin ended up getting the part over them =)

It's not all about your work experience. This certain director may already have an idea in mind of who he wants to play Bianca and those girls may not fill it. Just be yourself and make Bianca who you think she should be. The director may end up loving you in the part.

Because you have no idea what the director is looking for, and it very well could be you! Just because a person has more experience or a more polished looking resume doesn't necessarily mean they are a shoe-in for a role. So just go in there and blow the CD away with your inherent awesomeness!

And you shouldn't be. If you got a callback, then that means the director is interested in you. And he obviously thought that you are good.

So you never done a Shakespeare show in your life. You've got to start somewhere.

Good luck!

- Because even though you may not get a lead, you could have the chance to act in your very first Shakespeare production.
- Because if you don't go, then your chances go down to zero.
- Because if you got called back, then they obviously liked you just as much as the other girls.
- Because it will give you more experience.
- Because auditioning against others who may have more experience/training/etc. than you will make you raise your game
- And lastly, because you are beautiful!

(I know there are many other reasons too, but those were the first ones I thought of)

It's good to be nervous, just channel it in the right place - like "studying Shrew and doing character studies instead of doing laundry and sleeping and eating" Smile

I think I need to remind myself that an impressive resume does not equal impressive talent. This girl I'm doing a show with right now has an amazing resume and has actually won awards (somehow) despite being a horrible actress and a perpetually flat singer.
Bianca.

Bianca says MaryMag is TOTALLY worthy of playing Bianca.

..and that's all that matters. Wink

Darling, You are enough.

Those words are key.

You are enough.

All you can be is who you are.

No one is you. No one can do what you can do. Regardless of their resume.

You'll be wonderful sweetheart. I know you will.

Keep us posted!

You have nothing to lose . . . go for it, and shoot for your star.

Break a leg!

If anything, I think the fact that he called you back says a lot about your talent. Even without the impressive resume that the other girls had, he saw something in you that made him pause and think, "I want to see more of her." So, you must have done an awesome job at the audition. Kudos to you and so much luck on your callbacks!
