Elvis-type personalities in Pharaoh and TuggerBoth these characters were designed as rock-star impersonators. However, would the part of The Rum Tum Tugger work if he were portrayed by an Elvis impersonator? I konw that ALW based Tugger on Mick Jagger, but I'm sure that an Elvis-type approach to the role and to his standout song would relally serve him well. I only wish Robert Torti would one day play Tugger after having portrayed Pharaoh and Greaseball...

... because there is all of one.
Rum Tum Tugger as Elvis would make the show even more gaudy then it is already.

I think the entire point of the Rum Tum Tugger is that he is just overall a rockstar type cat. I don't think it matters who he is "portrayed as" as long as he gets the overall rockstar cat message across.

"The first music I remember hearing is Beethoven's 9th symphony followed by Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley." -- Andrew Lloyd Webber talking about his influences. I thin k that quote sums it up nicely.
