Egh, Jesus.Finally, the upcoming movie version of "Sweeney Todd," which will star Johnny Depp in the title role, has found its Mrs. Lovett. Helena Bonham Carter will play the London pie maker and will reportedly do her own singing.I just know the show will be ruined. Unless they have Sondheim aboard the project. |

Interesting. Now the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter team has worked together on at least three films: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride and now Sweeney Todd. I can't wait to see it! | ||

not always. for everybad film adaptation like,Carousel, A Little Night Music,brigadoon Mame,Fantasticks or Pal Joey there is a great film version like My Fair Lady, Oliver,King and I,Chicago,Kiss Me Kate or Producers. |

I'm actually much less worried about her than I am about Johnny Depp. It remains to be seen whether she can handle Sondheim's score, but at least she can sing. | ||

Johnny Depp CAN sing. There is a movie of his that came out in the 80's (maybe early 90's), "Crybaby", in which he does his own singing. However, the singing styles and ranges for "Crybaby" and "Sweeney Todd" are POLAR OPPOSITES. Still, it's good to know Johhny has some form of singing experience. And I'm not too worried. Johnny Depp can do anything as far as I'm concerned. | ||

^ Interesting, but of course that could just be modesty. I wouldn't put it past Johnny Depp to have a self-effacing sense of humor, and the article makes it sound as if he's sort of joking around. I sincerely hope that he's not a bad singer! | ||

We all do. Unfortunately, all we have is hope since there is no evidence of his competency for the role. My friends joke about how funny it will be if it turns out that Depp is a talented baritone and my pessimism erroniously laughable. How I long for that to be the case. As I've often stated, I hope to eat crow; in the meantime, I'll continue to loath the little waif. | ||
