Don't shoot yourself in the foot!

I've seen this happen so often... don't let this happen to you:

The director sees something he likes in a performer, but isn't sure if he/she is right for a particular part. So they call the person back for dance ensemble or a small part, with the thought that they will look at them for the other parts at the same time (and ask them to stay longer or read something else if they see something they like at callbacks).

Then the fool actor declines or no-shows to the callback, because it wasn't for a "good enough" part.

It ain't over until the fat lady sings (or you get notification that you didn't make it). Until that moment, you are auditioning for any part in the show. You can always turn down the offer if you don't like what you get. Directors often see something the second time that they missed the first, and you may get a chance to read for the role you want. But if you no-show to the callback, you never know what might have been.

And while I'm at it, don't think that the volunteers in the hallway or collecting paperwork don't mention when an actor treats them rudely or throws attitude. When you're auditioning, be on your best behaviour anywhere in the region of the decision makers, because you never know who may have influence in the casting process.

Getting off my soapbox now....

not to mention, a no-show to a callback probably won't ever get ANOTHER callback from that director.
