Don Juan Triumphant climax

Could it be that everything in POTO just seems to build up to Don Juan Triumphant, such that this scene could act as a turning-point in the entire musical? I've felt this scene just seems to represent all the twisted desires in the Phantom's schemes for Christine emerging into the open, and at the same time most if not all of the musical motifs in the musical just seem to want to culminate and converge in this scene.

WELL, HOT DOG! WE HAVE A WEINER!

What have we got for this lucky contestant, Jerry?

Sarcasm aside, yes to the original poster. I read somewhere that the Don Juan scene was added (it wasn't in the original novel) because they wanted a second, more public unmasking at the moment which was meant to be the Phantom's greatest artistic, emotional etc triumph. So's they could humiliate the character as much as possible.
