What?? How could some of you be against this??! He is a sexist racist pig. |

Barely. I'd say "Nappy-Headed Hoes"... it sounds funny. And I'm by no means racist or sexist. |

Wait...I thought he was only fired from MSNBC? His radio show used to be simulcast on MSNBC cable television. Howard Stern used to be shown on the E! channel, only his wasn't live. Doesn't Imus still have his radio show?

I do love you Americans..

Oooh, nevermind. Just read all about it over at Drudgereport.com.
I don't think that comment deserves this sort of punishment. What makes me upset about this is that he is being labelled "a racist." I seriously doubt he's an actual racist. He made a very stupid comment, yes, but that's about it. This is crazy. I kind of feel sorry for the dude. But yes, what he said was in REALLY bad taste. I thought the "hos" part was what crossed the line. The women he was referring to didn't deserve to be degraded like that. But, if anything good comes out of this, it's the fact degrading comments in general are not being tolerated. |

Pretty much sums-up my opinion...

Don't have the tme for a more full reply...
Imus built his career on racism. He started out as a stand up comic and he was building his following right around the time Richard Pryor was touring and reaching his peak, Imus told almost exclusively, racist jokes, some polish jokes but mostly black, mexican and asian jokes. Its fairly clear from past actions that he's a racist. This latest fiasco just made me and the others who aren't Al Sharpton kind of laugh, as it is ridiculously mild compared to all of his past statements (notably, saying the Williams sisters should pose for National Geographic instead of Playboy). Then he goes on with Al Sharpton, who lord bless him tries not to be merely commercialized outrage and actually does have the experience and knowledge to say valuable things but can't quite muster the strength to avoid being a sideshow. So he goes on Al Sharpton to apologize, and does the whole 'I've had dinner with Black people! In their homes!' kind of thing. And I'm giggling, because common trap, makes it worse. But then he made my day. Al's being pretty tough on him, and Imus- straight as an iron rail actually says all indignantly: "You know, I can't ever win with YOU PEOPLE." Poor guy. He just ain't that bright. |

Dax you made some good points. However, I am not mad at the fact that Don Imus got fired even though I am a fan of his show. It is comedy and should be recognized as such. He is not a journalist!!
I am pissed at how this whole thing was handled. There is a serious problem with reverse discrimination in this country. I'll feel much better about all this as soon as Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson go down to Duke University and apologize to those boys and when Oprah has the Duke players on her show. |

That was my point in the other thread. If African Americans did Bill Engvall's comedy, or Jeff Foxworthy's, white people would scream about racism as well. It just doesn't happen.
I think what Quique said made the most sense. And remember, it's not necessarily a freedom of speech issue when the FCC is concerned. In this case, frankly, it's a money issue. Advertisers were dropping like flies. |

I guess it depends on the nature of the jokes. We've become so ultra-sensitive that a white person really takes a chance if a joke's subject is outside of his race or ethnicity. But as a test, I think this is funny. But is it also racist? http://youtube.com/watch?v=0YQmkDDCyXQ
That reminds me of the infamous gaffe that Ross Perot made in 1992 before a largely black audience. The news media did a teaser of Perot's terrible remark that could sink his campaign so I waited for the story. When I heard Perot's remark as "you people", I thought...you mean THAT was it? That's all? Why are we pretending that there are no differences? The black community itself consciously makes efforts to distinguish itself from the white community and I know for a fact that some in the black community just hate seeing white kids wearing hip-hop fashion. |

There are plenty of black comics that base their careers on white jokes... what's the difference...
And yes, going into the black community is a bit of a culture shock, it surprised me. |

It's ridiculous. Some people are way too easily offended.

Either that, or too willing to start screaming about discrimination at the slightest provokation whether or not there was any real offense to speak of. I hate reverse discrimination in all forms, legal and illegal. It's almost worse than the regular kind, because at least that isn't regarded as acceptable. But how many times do you see white people, heterosexuals, men...any group not traditionally considered a minority...either made the butt of a cruel joke in the media or even discriminated against in the workplace, for no reason but that there won't be consequences, while there would be if anyone else was the target? Not directly tied to this discussion, but...I was student of the month sophomore year for my sociology essay, "Affirmative Action: Abolishing Discrimination, or Keeping Score?" |

I was a bit underwhelmed by this article: http://www.metro.co.uk/fame/article.html?in_article_id=44987&in_page_id=7&in_a_source=
I saw the episode and the comments made were mumbled as they sped away in a car on a job, barely audible comments and in keeping with his character. A character which we all recognise in the show as being out of touch with modern sentiments and wrong on almost every count and in everything he does... How could anyone take him seriously? An example of people being over-offended on behalf of others I feel. |
