do you think rent has some similarities to hair?

so i'm watching hair the musical and listening to the obc recording.

some tracks (ex. colored spade, hair, etc), have a style with rapid fire lyrics like in la vie boheme from rent/ similarities.

in Hair, berger sings on a table in front of snooty people like la vie boheme.

and just the tribe in hair reminds me of bohemia.

anybody else feel some similarities?

maybe larson was inspired by this?

i know he was inspired by la boheme.

what do u think?

Almost every article that talked about Rent in its initial release mentioned it being the Hair of the 90s.

oh ok whew...... i thought i was going way off tangent.

it's cool to hear that.

yah i was thinking... rent deals with a big social issue (aids).

hair deals with a big social issue (vietnam war).

cool.

by the way, i dunno i'm not really digging hair. it's ok......but.. i dunno....it's ok.

i think maybe it's the whole drug thing.

or maybe the time period of it.

it sounds "dated" if you get what i mean.
What you own

It's pretty easy to make the connection. The big one and most promienent one I think is is this

Both are bohemeian

Yah and I'm sorry with the spelling. Just got back form our school Muiscal. Opening night. Bit tired.

I remember talking to Hair's producer Michael Butler, and he described going to see Rent with the surviving authors of Hair (Jim Rado and Galt MacDermot) and some of the show's original cast members. They enjoyed it, and they saw where Hair influenced the piece, but ultimately they felt there was so much in it that didn't compare.

i think Hair did really inspire Jonathan Larson - tho i've only ever seen the film version of Hair. i cannot wait to see it on broadway this summer, and/or the national tour, if there so be one.

For God's sake find a decent production of the play! The film of Hair bears no resemblance to the play and pales in comparison.
TheGuyFromBroadway

They're both about underground anti-work anti-mainstream groups.
hippies & bohemians.
and the abstractness of them.

um. well, as i said - i plan to see it on Broadway this summer and/or the tour if there will be one. i can already tell the film wont compare from all that i've read about the live version as well as having quite a few of the soundtracks.

take a pill, lol. Mr. Green
