Why not post the whole quotes?
ade

I don't know if this is in the musical Mame or the stage show, or just the movie: "Life is a Banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death."

also: " the Art of making Art" from Sunday in the Park with George
"We'll serve anyone meaning anyone and to anyone at all." Sweeney Todd
"Everybody goes down well with Beer." Sweeney Todd
"perpetual anticipation is good for the soul but it's bad for the heart." A Little Night Music
"Judging from the level of the conversation so far you can hardly have expected me to be paying attention." A Little Night Music
DramaRobin2002

"You always said how lucky you were that we were all friends. But it was us, baby, who were the lucky ones."- Rent

That's one piece of sage advice from RENT that I actually disagree with.

My favorite quote from RENT: Pookie
EponineGiry

Music! Food of love, emotion, mathematics, isolation, rhythm, feeling, power, harmony and heavy competition!

really...why is that?

Two reasons:
1.) Why do you have to love yourself in order to give love?
2.) I think deep down, everyone already loves themselves, however a person might not like him/herself. It's possible to love a person but not like him/her.
EponineGiry

^ No, it doesn't mean you have to be in love with yourself, it means that you, yourself, have to love.

No, the phrase specifically states
Quote:
...until you love yourself.

It's weirdly phrased, but it's drawing off the common sentiment that love is not a one-way street (or here a three-way street).

yes it's possible to love someone without liking them, but i don't think that everyone loves themselves deep down. people who are constantly hurting themselves do not love themselves. and those people aren't the ones who are going to experience true love.

the quote is saying that you'll never be able to experience what love really is until you can love yourself, because it's only then that you'll really be able to fathom what love is.

My favourite line in RENT:

"Roger, where are you?"

Andy.

You misunderstood the line. The line is adressed to Mimi who doesn't take care of herself--she does drugs and is a stripper. Thus, she doesn't love herself. I think what Roger means is that she can't love others 'til she cleans up her act because all of her vices will get in the way.

ANother good quote from Rent:
"Let he among us without sin be the first to condemn La Vie Boheme".

Hahaha.... I'd LOVE to see that on a wall at a theater, hahah.

I think that falls under the category of one of "the more obvious ones."

But since it's the motto of the musical, we might as well show our appretiation by putting it on the wall =)
On the other hand, this phrase is very good in the context, but I wouldn't agree with it in other circumstances.

Heh, me too. I'd laugh my ass off... really, I would! It's such a good line... and it's said by Benny. Benny is a pretty cool dude.
ShadowInTheWings

"How do you measure the life of a woman or man? In truths that she learned, or in times that he cried. In the bridges he burned, in the way that she died."

"Find glory beyond the cheap coloured lights, one song before the sun sets -glory- on another empty life." <VERY appropriate for a theatre>
