Dirty Dancing on stage....It looks like the show made it from Australia via Germany to London.
Any thoughts?

I think it will be a total interesting experiance. I went and saw Lord of the Rings in Toronto, not because of the story or anything. I went because it is totally different from any "current" show. I love the movie so I can't say anything bad. I am all for the original Broadway musical (i.e. Drowsy Chaperone) but I like watching the "Juke-Box" musicals, and the movie musicals to see the creative spin on it

As long as people are paying to see them, they'll keep going.

i know that, which makes it more annoying, as the more people pay to see them, the less people see the real musicals and eventually they will die out. the film/pop musicals already have a large number of the big theatres in london... its just a bit sad

I'm still saddened by that Jerry Springer nonsense. Just what is that?

lol, i quite like jerry spring the opera. At least it was original, ya know?

The music was original at least, however many would still consider it smut compared to other things.
Personally I'd rather see Dirty Dancing The Musical then Jerry Springer The Opera. However, that's just me.

We Will Rock You - Queen
Our House - Madness
Mamma Mia - Abba
Daddy Cool - Boney M
Tonight's the Night - Rod Stewart
Ugh....I really hope I'm not missing anything!
Where's the creativity in these 'musicals'? They've grabbed a greatest hits cd out of some bargain bin and decided to make it into a musical...great. Well done
I swear this glut of karaoke musicals has spawned my unhealthy obsession with Wicked at the moment - besides Avenue Q, the only musical to come to London lately that isn't a rip off of a film or someone's back catalogue. The only film I've wanted to see made into a musical is Moulin Rouge (but I can understand why it hasn't)!

Sorry, but this really bugs me.
As for Dirty Dancing, well, at least they've get an excuse for lots of dancing and music....my real bugbear is that all these 'musicals' being performed in the west end makes the songs in them almost automatically of the musical genre. What is that anymore?

i saw it when it was done in australia. it was pretty tacky but good for a laugh. its kind of like a concert show.

I went to see it last November and really enjoyed it. The dancers were amazing. I actually loved everything about it. I live in Ireland, but I'm going again later this year to see and a couple of other musicals in London.
Everyone has different tastes. I thought Josef Brown was brilliant as Johnny.

See, I've heard mixed reviews from both movie and non-movie fans, but it's relatively all positive. I'm kinda interested and don't mind the whole concert show thing at all. I mean, I don't think it's made itself to be pretentious; that is, it knows that it's just a fun show, I guess. I actually only want to watch it b/c Shonagh Daly's in it, hehehe. The pop songs supposedly fit her voice/style much better than the Les Mis stuff.
