Did Blood Brothers 'work' in the USA?I'm just wondering, how did Blood Brothers go down in the US? Did everyone retain Liverpool accents? Did any of the dialogue have to change? I mean some of it is pretty UK-centric, even northern-centric 
Also, tell me if this seems wrong, but I think it could work as a US version, set in somewhere like Detroit, maybe even an all black cast, to make it more ghetto-based etc?

Apparantly it was on Broadway for 2 years though, and did a 2 year US tour!

Yeah, but not quite as Northern focussed as Blood Brothers. Plus they've had a black, white, chinese, and American play Billy himself so far, so it doesnt seem so important to them about original details.

It's such a shame it doesn't work over there... Such a lovely show! I'm seeing it in London next week for the third time. Even though some of the dialogue wouldn't work, a few minor changes would help it get alonng (like with the Ave Q tranfer).
As for Legally Blonde, us Brits are looking forward to it. With the film being very popular I'm guessing this show could have a good life on the West End.
As for Billy, it's won like a gazzzzliiionnn Tony's so I'm guessing they're loving it.

Yes, everyone over here loves Billy. At least in my area. On the subject of Blood Brothers...I absolutely LOVE it. But you're right, it's practically unknown over here. I had no idea what it was until I saw it at a local semi-pro theatre. As far as I could tell there were no changes. The show was amazing and was a hit for the group.

Well, see, I hate Billy. So opinions differ. But for the most part, us Americans are eating Billy up.
As for Blood Brothers, it's fairly unknown.

I saw the national tour starring Petula Clark and David Cassidy twice. Each time the house was full. But I've read that the Broadway production failed to catch on with American audiences and they resorted to stunt casting Mrs. Johnstone (sp?) in order to pull in audiences.
I discovered the show after my brother had purchased the 1988 London revival album and recommended it to me (as he was sick of me playing nothing but Les Mis around the house, lol). I really like the show a lot. I wish I had seen it more than twice though. I'll definitely try to catch it in London if it's still there by the time I finally get to go.
