Derrick Williams as Fiyero?I haven't seen Derrick perform, but from the youtube videos, he doesn't seem that great. His acting is good, but I'm not so sure about his singing. Does anyone agree or disagree? I am very interested to see what other people say.

I liked him, even if he didn't make it at all clear that Fiyero was never interested in Glinda.

I've only seen "Wicked" once, and Derrick was Fiyero. I don't have anyone to compare him to, but I thought he was good.

How have other Fiyeros done that? I thought it was innate in the script that he's interested in Glinda at first, but then realizes that he really loves Elphaba. Do you mean that other Fiyeros have made it clearer that he's only attracted to Glinda at first, but never really loves her? I could believe that perfectly well with Derrick.

Adam Garcia made it obvious that it was all about social status - he's perfect, she's perfect, of course they're an item. Personality doesn't come into it, it would just be wrong if it was any other way. He never acted anything more than a casual friendship towards her.
I suppose the extra scene with him meeting Elphaba first helped.

the thing that ticks me off about him is that he stayed with the show FOREVER. i mean...he was in the OBC!

That's interesting. I'd never thought of it that way before. I suppose that's the advantage of seeing a show multiple times; your view of the characters broadens.

And it makes them all so much more sympathetic - if Fiyero isn't cheating on his lover, and Elphaba hasn't stolen her best friend's man, their relationship isn't tainted. It's only marred by the fact that Galinda is infatuated with Fiyero - and even that she lets go in the scene before 'No Good Deed', with
"Stop! In the name of goodness, stop! Don't you see? He was never going to hurt me! He just... he loves her.". Which is a huge step in her character's development, to me.

That's what I'm thinking! He's been with Wicked for what.... 4 or 5 years now? I have no clue how or why they kept him.
