I'm playing Demeter in my school's production and id like to get a grasp on the varying view of the relationship between Demeter and McCavity.
Any information would be helpful

In the video's "The Making of CATS" (Bonus features), Guillian Lynn is shown coaching Aeva May (Linda Brewer) about her movements in "Macavity". When Demeter caresses herself and then then appears to go through revulsion, this is what Guillian said:

"The man was wonderful when he made love to me, but I hated him..."

The best for you would be to get this from a Demeter actress, but when I heard this part, I was struck by the seemingly love-hate movements of this number seen in Demeter. One actress was said that as part of her coaching, the director indicated that Macavity had raped her...

In my fanfiction writing, I had a running discussion with two other writers concerning Demeter and what might of happened. We worked up that Macavity gained Demeter's confidence, made sure that she felt loved and adored, and then suddenly turned 180 one night, went cold, unfeeling, and finally raping her... Then he would repeat the process, playing on her need to feel loved and wanted, and then destroying it... About at this time, Bombalurina takes Demeter with her and they escape...

Anything Demeter hears makes her jump and think it might be Macavity, so she's also afraid of him.
