Defy Gravity?

Hi, I was just wondering does anyone know of a cheap easy way to defy gravity?

I'm mostly thinking about the lift here when Elphaba rises.

Does anyone have any idea of how to do that without having to pay for something expensive?

Is there something out there that already exists that could do the same job.

The only thing I do at the minute is stand on a chair lol

Any ideas?
Timmy_Wishes he was Quast

Could you not do it with a series of stepped rostra? On a moving truck perhaps? The Cape/cloths each side could then be held by company members off stage and shaken as the truck was pushed forward.
This is an idea probably explained really badly.
Luc

Can I ask why you need this information?
actor

Oh, it's nothing important. Not doing a performance or anything lol

Just for fun
lostquiche

you want a way to defy gravity "just for fun?" weird question.
Jordan

Strange question for a boy to ask Wink
actor

lol what does it matter about gender? lol

It's not just for me, I know there are lots of people who want to know a way to do it. There have been a few threads about it.
Quique

Why would you want to hoist yourself up toward the open air? What...just so you can screech "Defying Gravity" at the top of your lungs and pop many an eardrum? That's creepy and silly.

Not to mention dangerous. Just watch, there will be dumb kids trying to hoist themselves up Elphaba-style using rope and will probably hang themselves deader than doornails.

Be careful.

Oh dear lord, is this going to be your 'coming out' performance or something then? Wink

An example of the theory of evolution in practice? Those too stupid will eliminate themselves?

It's one of those things where if you have to ask, you shouldn't be doing it. Too much possibility for things going wrong...I'd stick to standing on your chair!

No, it isn't. I RESERVE my right to launch myself into mid - air and cause permanent hearing damage to all around me, so there! Razz

On the other hand ... I don't think there is a quick, cheap or easy way to "defy gravity", apart from the obvious (hot air balloon, bungee jumping, pitch yourself off a roof etc.) And it IS dangerous. Best reserved for the stage, and then only in the hands of a qualified technician.

Yes! I've been waitng for someone 2 pop tis question. I would like to know 2! Let's be serious now and try to figure out a safe fun and good looking way to "DEFY GRAOITY(coughs)DEFY GRAVITY!"
Luc

What.
katethegreat

This is a highly surreal thread Razz
Jordan

And Actor has still failed to state whether this is his 'coming out' performance. I could see him partnered up with FutureMUNGOJERRIE as they are the same age Laughing
Quique

He also shrieked in another thread that he'd like an Elphaba dress. Omg.

Not sure FutureMUNGOJERRIE would be happy with Glinda...seems Actor has already claimed Elphaba! Mr. Green

The only way anyone can defy gravity without killing themselves, or in some cases other innocent humans, is to be cast as Elphaba herself.

I really can't think of another way.

Rolling Eyes When you do figure out that alternative way...be careful.

erm no I never lol

The only thing I can really think of off the top of my head is to build a platform thing they have, but hook it up to the fly bars. You get in secure yourself and then pray that the people on the fly can lift you up and hold you through out the song. I would think it would be a little scary. Or do that but then have someone push a backward staircase under you that is covered with fabric. That way once your up, you can stand and still and make all the movement you want without over or swaying.

He shrieked about wanting an Elphaba dress. Laughing

OK, you're scaring me. A lot. Fly bars are not designed to fly people from - this is why there are specialist people-flying companies like Flying by Foy and ZFX (who did the people-flying in Wicked). If you do this, you'll end up injuring probably yourself, and also the people that you land on when it all goes horribly wrong and you crash to the floor. Praying that the flymen can hold you does not count as acceptable fall restraint!! Please, please, please don't try anything like this - get clever with chairs, or maybe stilts or something, but don't attempt any people-flying or lifting without the proper professional advice....

lol!

why do you want to know so much? lol
luckystar_30

oh this is a truly ridiculous thread!
But why not to skydiving? (sounds wierd, but actually really fun). Look it up, do it tandum - that way youre attatched to a profesional and don't even need to pull a cord or anything. Sing your little song while floating comfotably to the ground.
And please be careful.
geez.

I didn't say I would try this. I said it's all I could think of. I get scared standing on the tall ladders painting the sets. I had to jump off the stage one time and pretend I was jumping off a building committing suicide in a scene we were assigned. It freaked me out. I was so scared to even jump off the stage.

My response wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, it was a non-specific "you" Smile All I meant was please don't even suggest stuff like this because it isn't safe, and even if you (personally) wouldn't do it, someone else reading this forum just might.
defyinggravityxxx

hmm..... what if you just got your chair, but a bench on it and make sure it's safe. then you'll be higher then just a chair then hope that the lighting will not show the chair legs. put a "scream" costume on with a cape and try to hide the bench and chair. idk it's hard to defy gravity. good luck and yeah be careful. Smile

I'm not sure if i or Actor should be most insulted by the two of us being confused with each other. Im pretty sure we ARE different...and whats wrong with wanting and elphaba dress? I already own a Javer over coat, and Ado Annie Dress and straw hat, a Thenardier Apron and a World War One Over Coat....
defyinggravityxxx

i don't think anything is wrong with that.. so i'm with you on this one, cuz that dress is wonderful!
xoFoRgEtReGrEtox

i don't know how much they are but they're liftes thatare used in gymnastics to practice flips. They can't be terribly expensive cuz the poor places where i've seen them used are like after school stuff. It would be a good investment too.

Let me think....Brick wall
the only other thing is to be on a platform painted black lifted by like roped and pulleys also painted back.

thats all i got. Anxious
good luck!
TheWitch

One of the highschools where I live has Halloween skits that each class perform. It's also a competition and the best show each years wins. Two years ago they did Peter Pan and they actually set up a wire and got Tinkerbell to fly accross the gym (where the shows are performed). These shows are planned far in advance and next year's senior class (my sister's) has been talking about doing Wicked. This is the idea they had to either place Glinda's bubble on or use to fly Elphaba. We've already found a place that rents them.

thats a good idea but how are you gunna hide the thing?
TheWitch

Well for Glinda's bubble it would probably be draped with a shiny blu material. And for Elphaba the big cape would cover it.
TheWitch

Crap, I actually sent out the wrong link. I was sooo not paying attention.

i could have sworn i posted to youre reply, oh well that is a good idea now i want one. lol
