I am a highschool Junior, wanting to Major in Musical Theatre.

I've never taken private singing lessons.. But I would say my voice is my strong point.

I've never attended a summer intensive, either.

I am a dancer. Dance is my absolute PASSION.

I've done a handful or so of straight plays.. nothing incredibly serious or reputable, and I've never prepared an audition monologue (Though I'm in the process of working on all that now..). I have the least experience in legitimate acting..but.. as I said.. when I choose to audition for legit. shows.. I've done well and been cast.. so I can't exactly be horrific at it.

This is my last summer before College Auditions.. And I really want to attend a summer camp.

Specifically.. a branch of the New York State Summer School of the Arts.

But, the thing with this is, Their theatre program is straight acting.. no dancing or singing.. This would be good for me because I don't have much experience.. but.. my passion is musical theatre.. I need to dance and sing to exist! haha..

their Dance program.. at a completely different location, is simply dance..
I believe with a modern/ballet focus.. and not theatrically oriented. I still have a LOT that I can improve on, dance wise, and could REALLY benefit from an intense 4 weeks.

Their Choral Program.. eh. I believe it's just classical singing.. in a large group.. it doesn't seem from the pictures to be what I'm looking for.. and I think I missed the audition anyway...

My other option... is to start taking private voice lessons. I know I need to. I really, really do. I could probably start whenever I wanted.. I have a teacher lined up and everything.. I've just been waiting until my schedule clears up to give her a call..and of course.. for parental consent.


therein lies my ACTUAL issue.

My parents are very reluctant to let me do any of this, much less all of it.
Ideally, I'd start my lessons this week, and audition for both programs, and seriously consider which I attend from that point. Realistically, I will have to choose.

But.. I want to get opinions from you all.
What is it that I need?
What aspects do MT colleges (Talking the "big" schools.. I'm looking at like.. UMich.. CMU.. CCM.. NYU.. BoCo.. etc.) consider most?
Help me out, guys, I always value your opinions.. and right about now I could use another outlook.
