Deciding our High School show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My theatre teacher want to do one of three shows...and they are:
1. West Side Story--LOVE the show! but we have about 2males with talant at our school!
2. Kiss me Kate--I like the show...he wants to do a shakespeare theme.
3. Cinderella (Rogers and Hammersteins)--My vote because we have trouble filling our enormous house and just by mentioning Disney, people show up, it'll be FUN, it's a smaller cast then what we're used to, and i've always wanted to be cinderella or the stepsisters!
He told me that if I could justify having Cinderella in a shakespeare theme he'd do it!!!
We usually do kiddie shows because that's what our administration likes. (Last year they wouldn't let us do Little Shop of Horrors because it was too grusome!?!?!?. I'm sorry but that how is a dark COMEDY!...anyway.)
What do you guys think we should do?

My vote is for Kiss Me, Kate. Hard to beat Cole Porter.
Next would be Cinderella...my only qualm with this one is that it is pretty short...like 90 minutes...with three acts...and there is not a great deal of work for the chorus...but that may not be a problem for you
I'm not very found of WSS...I'm not a fan of big dance shows...and this one is certainly dance heavy.

I vote for Kiss Me Kate because as Sweeney Hyde said, Cole Porter is fantastic! Also, unless you're a brilliant brilliant school don't do WSS. The music is really difficult to play and you could get yourselves into some difficulties. Cole Porter is far more manageable

You would need a bunch of guys to do Kiss Me Kate, it also has a good bit of dance.
Cinderella is a good choice. I don't see an issue with it under two hours... with intermissions it will be about two hours long... it is a family show after all, and doesn't need to be three hours long. The chorus is not heavily featured in the show, but is onstage nearly the entire second act.

Cinderella for sure- Kiss Me Kate has been done to death and WSS needs a very strong male cast... (don't get me wrong - I LOVE Cole Porter).

Kiss Me Kate is a lovely show, and if you can pull it off then more power to ya.
If you're considering Cinderella, then also consider Into The Woods as a possible show. Into the Woods is fantastic, and not only is it a "family oriented show" it's also clevor and the music is great. Cinderella is do-able and that's what im doing presently.
West Side Story is so dated and I agree that it does require some very talented dancers.

Our rival school did Into the Woods last year
