Daphne Rubin-Vega to star in Broadway Revival of Les Mis

This is already being discussed in the Les Mis forum but I thought it would generate some interest here as well...it's just been announced that Daphne has been given the role of Fantine in the Broadway revival of Les Miserables.

I must admit, I was very excited when I heard this news. Excited and surprised just because when I think of Daphne, she doesn't seem like your traditional Fantine. I doubt I'll get a chance to see it so here's hoping for a new cast recording or something!

im not looking forward to that at all. Daphne's voice gives me a headache.

Wow...just...wow...I love Daphne's voice but I am having a hard time picturing her as Fantine. Even more reason to go see the revival now.

Agreed...can't picture. Then again, Les Mis roles are usually given to people with a more operatic than rocker quality. This ought to be interesting.

I agree after hearing some of the songs that daphne sang from rent it is really hard to picture her as Fantine.

I agree. This intrigued me immensely when it was announced. Daphne is definitely not the typical Fantine, so things could get interesting. I guess I could almost see her as the character, I just can't hear her voice on Fantine's songs.

Oh Lord just shoot me in the face! Daphe Rubin-Vega is horrible.
All except for Rocky Horror... I liked her in that....

Yeah. I could definitely see her looking the part.

I agree..she looks more mature..who knows maybe her voice had become les raw as well..or she has another style. keep in mind she was in Rent 10 years ago. I think it'ss be very interesting..anyone who sees her..let us know how she does.

At the tenth anniversary her voice was pretty much the same. Oh well I"m sure if she got casted then it's the role she fits.

Was VERY surprised and I am quite skeptical. Les Mis is one of my all time favs and Fantine is usually so "soft" and smooth and "classic" DRV's voice seems way too "raw" or "rough" I'm goin' of course! lol

We shall see...
