Hey,
I'm 17 and trying to sort out some new audition songs.
the style of the song and the vocal range is exactly what i want...

But i dont know how it would come across in an audition seeing as im 17, and clearly havn't had enhancment on my 'tits and ass'!!!

any comments??

hmm I don't know about this one for Ursula...I definately wouldn't recommend it.

Sorry, I think I would shudder to see this performed by a teenager.

What about the style of this song is so perfect? Maybe there are others more appropriate that would work.

im not sure exactly, its just a song i feel really comfrotable with the notes and the tone of the lyrics and stuff... but you guys are right it's not appropriate... glad i sorted this out out before i made a fool of myself at the audition!

A girl in my showchoir auditioned with this song and we were... umm... appalled.

Sure there are always exceptions . . . I saw a high school production of ACL a while back and the Val was THE best Val I've ever seen . . . maybe I'm biased because later on, we became really good friends, but at 16, she was definitely the best Val I've seen and I've seen at least 7 other Vals . . . it really depends. You'll prolly have trouble pulling it off, but it really all depends on who you are.

If you're looking for something fun, what about "Shy" from OUAM? It's loud, brassy, and really fun to perform, and in a comfortable range for most singers.

I actually used this as an audition song once, and everyone I talked to seemed to think it was a good idea. I must have checked with the choir director 10 times to make sure it was ok. She said that she really liked the song, and was very ok with it. I picked it because I think it is a hysterical song, and I wanted to be unique and different in my audition. Maybe I need a new audition technique... Sad

Well, it obviously all depends on what part you're auditioning for. In this case, Ursula is not a "tits and ass" kind of character.

General rule of thumb: Never audition with ANYTHING that may even REMOTELY offended someone. Never. Ever. There's no reason to shock people at auditions. They will not remember except to think, "Wow, she really doesn't know enough musicals to pick something more appropriate." You'll look like an amateur. Don't do it.

hey well im doin this song for a audition to get into musical theatre tomorrow at telford im 19 i can pull this song off and i think any1 with a good amount of confidence can do it to i also done big mama from cabaret and i certainly dont fit the profile of queen latifa but i done it and one guy said i was made for the part so any1 can do anything the feel good with x x so u go for it sweety x Laughing
