Cut versesDo you happen to know why some verses have been cut out from the show completely? I'm referring to the verse about the "warm and sunny spots" in the Gumbie Cat's song, and even the middle section of Bustopher with the Dromes. I wonder why not many people sing the second verse about Old Deuteronomy in the High Street, the verse about Growltiger's bucko mate and bosun, and the verse about dogs in the Ad-Dressing of Cats. (At least the UK tour version still has the middle section of Bustopher's solo verse...)

I may be imagining it but I'm sure when I saw Cats in London the middle of Growltiger was there.

AFAIK those verses were cut when the show was brought from the UK to the US. Some were probably to shorten runtime, and others, like Bustopher's verse, because the references would probably baffle most Americans.
I'm not sure on this though.

ResearchAccording to comparisons with the Original Cast Recordings (New London & Broadway), the aforementioned verses just never made it into production.
The entire third stanza "Old Deuteronomy lies on the floor Of the Fox and the French Horn for his afternoon sleep;..." was cut... Four lines from Mr. Mistoffelees was cut: "At prestidigitation And at legerdemain He’ll defy examination And deceive you again." In Macavity, the sixth stanza: "And when the Foreign Office find a Treaty’s gone astray, Or the Admiralty lose some plans and drawings by the way,..." was cut. And SEVERAL section of Ad-dressing were cut. At one time, the verse concerning the "dogs" was allowed in, but was later removed.
The cuts were probably made to reduce the amount of repetition and to shorten the length of the songs.
