Creating a show budget for the first time. Help?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on creating an original musical with a couple of fellow writers, and we are planning to have it performed on stage, probably somewhere in the US. I have, at least temporarily, also been assigned the role of producer. I have done early-stage planning on paper before for a school production which I was helping out with, and which unfortunately the school decided not to proceed with. And it was a little while ago.

Though I have created basic budgets before, this production is going to be at least semi-professional which is a first for me. I would really like to make sure that I don't miss anything out.

Does anyone have a link to a page which might give further information, or maybe a sample budget that I might be able to take a look at?

I could especially use some help with the costume / set parts. It's set in modern times so we won't need anything in an old style or covered in neon feathers or anything like that. It's set in a cold place though and we'd like to have the costumes reflect this without the actors all passing out under the lights. Is it possible to get things like coats and sweaters which look thick but actually aren't? And does anyone have any idea how much a raised level on the stage might cost? I was looking at scaffolding, but I'm not sure if this is right.

I know it's hard to put much together without specific details and obviously we will be finding slightly more experienced people later on. I'd just like to make sure that we have as much in order as possible. I don't want to get several months into production and then find out we've all gone bankrupt. Wink
