crashing an equity auditionso I am planning on crashing the equity auditions for a b'way show...I know it is going to be absolutely packed since said show is insanely popular, but how does one go about doing this? i've only ever attended open calls before, and though i'm equity-elligible I haven't gone about getting my card yet. is there generally just a non-equity list near the equity sign up list, or should I just put my name on the regular list and see what happens?has anyone done this before, and if so, how did it go? |

are you talking about an EPA or a chorus call? In NYC or Chicago? there is no "regular list" for an EPA. and putting your name on a chorus call won't do you any good if you don't have a card to show when they call your name.
there really is no way to "crash" an equity call. there are many legit ways to do it tho, but it is still the producers decision whether or not to see non eq. The equity monitors are your friends. It is absolutely NOT true that they want to shut you out. I've seen monitors run themselves ragged going back and forth to update the non-eq crowd as to how the situation is looking (something the don't have to do at all) |

Its in new york, and there's and EPA and an ECC for the same show on two seperate days, so I was planning on going to both. I just read the playbill article, definetly helpful...so I guess you just go and sign up with the monitor then? |

it all depends on how many people show up at the call. there is usually an "unofficial" non-eq list right outside the waiting area for an EPA. If it's too crowded for you to be seen, the monitor will tell you at the beginning of the auditions after they have made the appts and taken the alternate list. If the alternate list is over 60, it's not really possible to squeeze any non-eqs in.
at a chorus call, they will tell you just before the call begins if you will be seen or not, so you don't have to waste all day. once the call starts they will declare it "closed" and no more cards will be given out. if the show requires alot of teen looking actors the CDs will be much more inclined to see non-eq. |
