costume help i.e. what are my options here?I recently got my cats costume out to inspect it...and what's basically happened to it is that the thread around the zipper pretty much disintigrated and the zipper fused together due to having sat in flood waters but apart from that a couple of stains its looks fine so my questions are:1. how do you get stains out of nylon lycra without damaging the fabric? I seem to recall hearing that bleach would melt the fabric which would definately be an undesirable outcome 2. since it currently has no back zipper, would it be better to try to replace the zipper or to sew the back together and put in shoulder snaps? 3. I was hoping to wear this costume this Halloween since I've got most of it...the thing is I'm missing the wig...if I didn't want to replace the wig what could I do? I'm not really opposed to replacing the wig I'm just curious as to my options especially since I recently dyed my hair a kind of pink/magenta not too long ago and the costume's Jemima/Sillibub with a similar color under the black Thanks! |

I can't really answer these questions, but try this link:

Bleach is bad. Can you re-paint to cover the stains? perhaps make Jemima into Electra? Or use an opaque white paint over the bib?
Take out the zip! Depending on the style of the unitard, unpicking the shoulder seams to make them fastenings might mean taking off the collar of the unitard... But shoulder snaps look much better than a zip, so much more streamlined! |

In answer to the hair/wig question:
If it is long enough you can do the little "bun ears" like in the original London cast OR if it is short you can always spike it up and hair spray it to death until it sticks up like ears and fur. For the unitard stains...paint over them it should work. Let us know how everything goes. |
