Costume change?I'm just curious... does anybody know how Janet changes her costume during "Show Off" when the umbrella is placed in front of her and she says "Not me! Whee!!" ??? |

I heard it done with magents. I would have to say that would be a fast change and the magents would have to be right on and straight.

She's one of those quick change artists on "America's Got Talent".

The magnet thing is interesting... it sounds very complicated though!

I heard that it was magnetics too. I've even heard that the magnetics are similar to those quick change "Pocket Polly" dolls... if anyones heard of those. However, I really sincerely doubt they are similar because an actress probably wouldn't get magnets placed inside her body for a show. lol.

I'm not sure exactly how she does it, but when I went to see it, I was in the back of the theatre in the nosebleed seats, and I saw her costume getting sucked into the tip of her umbrella somehow

I have watched Sutton's performance from the Tony a couple times, and it looks like there is a hidden pocket in the umbrella. Magnets is an interesting idea, but it would have to be lined up pretty good if its just a match of taking off the top layer and hiding in the umbrella. She does make it look easy.

We've had to pull one of these off in a show we did once...
I agree with Fossebaby about the pocket. Usually for a quick costume change like that, you need to be wearing the other costumes under your main costume. She must've kept everything tucked in somehow. During the umbrella scene, the top costume (which probably has an easy removal, like a bunch of snaps or something down the side, something easy that she can just rip off) is pulled off by the character, and placed in the pocked. That's just what we had to do. Ours was a chalkboard going in front of a teacher though, and after the chalkboard left, the teacher was transformed into like, Marylin Monroe, LOL. It was hilarious. |

If you look at the umbrella as it's pulled back, you can sort of see another layer on the top underside, with one open panel on the right. Possible costume hiding place? |

gotta love the layered lookafter watching it a couple of times closely it is obvious she has the pink dress layered under the yellow and it's either a tear away or she pulls it off over her head.my reason for saying this versus it's a resersable dress is 1)completely flipping the dress inside out would take too long and you risk the chance of the dress not falling correctly or getting 2)the neckline of the second dress is just slightly lower than the yellow one 3)the hemline is completely different (the yellow has a scalloped edge while the pink falls longer and straight) 4)the yellow fits just slightly loose so the pink skirt can be held up in the bodice area without fear of it falling out or showing can you tell i've done this before and watched the video a few too many times? |

Only a little bit saavy. Good eye though. I've never had a quick costume change. Well, once i had to take off some of my clothing behind a door but it wasn't that quick. I always had time to help the girl that was undressing next to me...it was Noises Off.

And in the broadway.com video, she shows you all of her costumes and they're seperate. |

to me it looks like the top half of the yellow dress has snaps on the straps and when it's up-snapped, it makes it the bottom half of the pink dress.... if that makes any sense |
