She's the 12th princess who is tested by the Queen, and the only Princess other than the main character who we see tested. Her role is only at the beginning, and is relatively a cameo but is really fun and there are actually quite a few lines. She fails, and flees.

My daughter was also princess #12. They usually give her a name, my daughter chose Gertie. She had a lot of fun in the role. There is a song about her in the show (Opening for a Princess), and while there are only a few minutes of dialog she does get to hold the spotlight for approximately 5 minutes at the start of the show.
Princess #12 usually changes into another cosutume and becomes one of the ladies of the court for the remainder or the show. My kid also did a bit in the Jesters dance routine.

Yeah, I've heard of different ways to do Princess #12, including using a male.
In small casts, since Fred isn't onstage until Scene 3, they sometimes use Fred as Princess #12 in a wig (and using a different voice.) We were going to do that with me, but since I was the only large lady in the show, it would have been really obvious.

Yea, I was also Fred in the production of OUAM that I was in, and Princess #12 has a part at the beggining where she's being tested. And she gets some kind of parting gift if i remember correctly, and for ours, we threw a rubber chicken at her. Then basically the opening number starts with Dauntless singing "Oh, I liked her..." etc. Fred is Princess #13 technically, but ends up being the one picked to marry the prince, hence the irony in choosing 13.
