Confused about Sweeney tour

Sweeney is in chicago in april and may and i was planning to see it. However, I recently looked on the touring website and from some of the pictures it looklike the main characters were the orchestra and that the costumes were modern instead of 1870's London style. Someone please wake me up from this horrible dream and tell me that I've got it all wrong!!!!

This is no new thing. The 2005 Revival was completely stylized -- no chorus, just the actors, and no orchestra (the actors play their own instruments throughout the show). Look up their Tony award performance on Youtube for an idea of how it looks.

I'll be seeing it on Thursday, so I guess I'll have to postpone my own judgement until after I see it.

oh, jeez. I was wanting to see it.........but I'll just buy the Original Broadway DVD on Amazon. Tell me how it goes!

I saw the tour a few weeks back, and it was wonderful...Judy Kaye is a real treat as Lovett. Really, give it a try.

Seriously, you should see it. Don't be too quick to judge a new concept. I saw it last month, and it was fabulous.

I will do some more research on it. it's not coming till April and the tickets aren't even availible yet. I will look into it. I really do like the musical, and I love the music.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread.
LONG LIVE SWEENEY TODD!!!!!!

The revival is delightful.
The show works really really well on a minimalist/small scale level.
The way the actors have to work together (almost in a mechanical fashion) is just incredible and comes off beautifully.

UPDATE:

AH.
MAZING.

I met the whole cast, I'm in love with every single one of them.
Judy Kaye was soooo fantastic as Lovett, she was a bit less gracious than everyone else upon meeting her, but I pardon it with the fact that she's amazing.

I was let down by a couple of cast members -- I won't say which unless asked. And I still think Pirelli should have been a guy.

Honestly, I'm beginning to think if Sweeney Todd hadn't originally premiered in 1979 and the 2005 was the original version, I think I would like it more. It's just the type of show I love to see-- everyone on stage at once, everyone being a part of the action, and the orchestration part of it just adds to the magic. The tour needs to be seen. By everyone.

Ok, I think that everyone who contributed to this thread has led me to see the revival in a new light. I think I will go see it if i can.
