Concert for Diana

ALW will be performing later this evening in the Concert for Diana, or rather, a medley by him will be performed. This medley will feature Anastacia, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, Donny Osmond, Jason Donovan, Lee Mead and Chickenshed.

For US members who miss this, the concert will be playing again Monday evening from 7 p.m. Eastern to 1 a.m. Eastern on the VH1 Classic channel. The live concert is being broadcast on both VH1 and VH1 Classic, the latter playing an hour behind the former.

Video footage of the concert can be watched on vspot.vh1.com by clicking on the Natasha Bedingfeild and Rod Stewart section and fast forwarding through Natasha and Bryan Ferry.

EDIT: ALW's portion of the concert was broadcast at around 2:30 p.m. Eastern time. So if you plan to tune in for the 7 p.m. concert, tune in around 10:30 p.m. Eastern.

I saw it... Meh.

Oooooh! I saw it! Loved it!

Oh no, I missed it! I don't ever check VH1 for shows, it's too full of music I don't enjoy. Hope they make a DVD of the show. Does anyone know if the show will be repeated so that I can TiVo it?

GayBoy, thanks again for the link. I can't believe you-tube is getting so ubiquitous. It helps those of us who get out of touch.

OK, so now I'm really bummed I missed the original in hi-def with hi-fi sound. While you-tube captures the essence, it misses the ambiance. here's hoping for a repeat broadcast. If it comes TiVo is ready.

All I ask of You - Sarah is getting rusty. Josh Groban outsang her by a good margain. It was still well worth watching.

Music of the Night - Love Andrea Bocelli, he sounds amazing - like no one else, but he butchered the lyrics.

Any Dream will do - Great stuff by all three leads

Jesus Christ Superstar - FANASTIC!

Why didn't you comment on Memory? If you think Bocelli butchered his lyrics, you should have seen Connie Fisher's Memory. Here are her lyrics, which amuse me a great deal.

"Every street lamp seems to beat the stale, cold smell of morning.
A streetlamp gutters and a *mumbles incoherantly* flutters..."

Didn't he just? I was singing along happily and then thought "Eh? What?" then he did it again. And again. Evil or Very Mad

No problem. It might be listed as Memories though, because I know that's how they list it on VSpot. *shrugs*

Thanks for the tip. Found it and checked it out. Looks to me like they need more rehearsal. You're right about the lyrics on Memory.

Were there any other MT pieces other than those we've already talked about? If you just GOOGLE "Concert for Diana" you get too many hits to plough through.

It really shouldn't be listed as 'Memories' because the song is 'Memory'.

This is 'Memories' aka The Way We Were: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quWcvMGtnKw

Memory from Cats is ONLY (or should only be known as) Memory.

I get really bugged out by people calling 'Memory' 'Memories'. Confused
katethegreat

Does anyone know why that girl came on (I don't remember her name) sang a couple of lines with Connie and disappeared off stage again? I thought they were supposed to be doing a duet? Confused
I watched some of it, but mainly because my friend does BVs for Brian Ferry so as much I'm not a fan of his I have to watch when my friend's performing in Wembly Stadium! Mr. Green

They mentioned summat about her being another discovery of ALW. Does this mean he'll marry her in a few years time? *bleurgh!*
Alonza0

She came in because normally the song is sung by two characters, the second one singing only a few lines. This is done because, at that point in the song, the character is so depressed about her situation that she's ready to just give up. The second character sings to let the main character know that they are listening and some of them are starting to feel sorry for her. Then the main character stands up and delivers the rest of her song in a high-volume belt, determined that the group will hear her out. However, in this version it did look rather stupid, especially since on the one-line duet they sung the same notes. Usually they sing different notes. *shrugs*

Btw GayBoy, your little comment had me laughing for a good ten minutes. Laughing Applause

Ewwww... I just watched the Connie Fisher Memory video... she sounds horrible when she belts (during the "touch me..." part)!!
santtu

Yeah, Connie's performance of "Memory" was pretty embarrassing! She messed the lyrics and the song was so out of her belting range! Painful to watch and listen.

Anastacia's "Superstar" rocked!!!!!!!!! Fantastic!!!!!
