Company

I just recently bought the soundtrack to Company. I purchesed the 2006 revival version directed by John Doyle. Now, we all love Doyle for his work with the 2005 revival of Sweeney Todd. But is the original cast soundtrack better? And could someone give me a better idea of what the show is about? The synopsis given didn't give many details.

I personally think that the original is better.

Company doesn't have much of a plot. It's the story of a guy named Bobby whose friends are all married and Bobby is single. The audience sees a sequence of scenes with Bobby and "all the good and crazy people, [his] married friends". The first scene concerns Harry and Sarah (I think that's her name). Sarah is on a diet and studies kuh-ra-tey (karate) and Harry is a recovering alcoholic. In the next scene he smokes pot with David and his wife Jenny, the square. And later on there's a scene between his friend Amy and her husband Paul in which the two are to be married. Amy, on the other hand, is having second thoughts. The interesting thing about Company is that the songs are usually commenting on the action going on onstage. For example, "You Could Drive a Person Crazy".

I really suggest looking for the full script at your library. The book is very funny with a superb score by Sondheim.
