coming back to Michigan?

okay, so i got my ad today for the macomb center for the performing arts in clinton township, mi. thats on the center campus of macomb community college.

anyways, they say that Chicago will be there next february and i cant figure out if it's professional or not. i saw Cabaret there years ago, and they had it done just like the revival, so i assume it was pro. i just didnt think the tour would come to such a small venue for only 2 days, 'cos i havent heard of it coming back to detroit. in 2006, me and friends saw it at the fisher theatre - which is the show's usual venue when the tour comes to detroit. i emailed MCC to ask, but am impatient and want to see if anyone here knows anything.

plus, it'd be nice to know - if possible - who'd be in it. i'd LOVE to see Terra C once again!

thanks in advance. Cool
Linda

Interesting.

Can't tell if it will be equity or non-equity.

The tour has been doing some split weeks lately.
Kev

Hm, well it's still on Troika's upcoming roster to go Non-Equity, so who knows.
Linda

I would not be surprised if it went non-equity.
This last tour has lasted 4 years.

i got my response today, actually.

my original message:

hi:

i just got my flyer today for your upcoming season and i noticed
you'll
be having Chicago, The Musical.
i wanted to know if this is the professional tour of the show or not.

the response:

Yes it is one of our Broadway shows.

now, i cannot wait to see who'll be in the cast! Shocked
Linda

Their response shows that they have no clue what you asked them.

Many non-equity tours are included in a venue's Broadway series.

At the NJPAC this past season, Hairspray which was most definitely a non-equity tour was part of the Broadway series. And NJPAC was charging
high prices.

well, the pricing is pretty standard - i think $45 to $55 - and they, too, are showing Hairspray.

Yeah, that means nothing. Plus, the question was phrased oddly. A non-Equity tour is professional as well (they're getting paid, obviously), it's just not "direct from Broadway" as many of the ads lead you to believe, aside from the fact it's non-union. Many "Broadway Series" are full of only Non-Eq tours, and $45-$55 is a standard price for them. Who knows. And having just looked at the rest of their season (Annie, Hairspray, Movin' Out), all the shows are Non-Equity tours, so my guess is the same will apply for Chicago.

Linda, any idea when the current 3NT is scheduled to end? I can only find summer dates, and the official website only lists Pittsburgh (not that it's ever fully up-to-date.)

*edit
Linda

Wish I knew the answer, Kev.

The only clue is that Michelle DeJean's website mentions that July 22 is the date that the 3rd national tour ends. Sad

Too bad Pittsburgh is too far away for a road trip for me.

Four years is a great run though. It's hard to believe so much time has passed. Seems like a blink of an eye.

Best of luck to the entire cast.

well, that just blows. i thought it odd, tho since they normally go to the fisher in detroit. i figured it was too good to be true. however, when i did see Cabaret there years ago, they had the revival music and staging and everything, so i guess this wont suck.

i just really wanted to see Terra C live again, as well as Carol Woods as Mama. plus, i've heard many great things about Michelle DeJean.

d'oh!
Linda

Road trip!

If you really want to see them one last time, try to see them in Pittsburgh.

It's only 5.5 hour drive. Smile

a wonderful THOUGHT, indeed. but, Im a loser with no car and no one to take me. gas would be pretty pricey, as well. Confused

That's what many Non-Eq tours do when the Eq tours finish; they reproduce the staging and design, which is exactly what Cabaret did. Chicago will follow the same deal. If I'm not mistaken, the only things not included in the former Non-Eq Chicago tour was the elevator in the bandstand and, in some cities, the ladders on either side of the stage.

i guess i didnt know about things like that. it's too bad there wont be any NAMES in this production, but if it's pretty close - especially the choreography - then it will probly be a good show. there was no lift in the bandstand for Velma in detroit at the fisher, i mean that all depends on the theatre. i'd hope they'd get the ladders just for the look and everything - i cant imagine what they'd do instead.

anyways, thanks for the responses - everyone.
