I'm thinking of autitioning the ensemble. I can sing mezzo or soprano, but I'm not a strong belter and singing is my weakness (I can dance and act though).
I had a couple of questions because I don't know the show very well:
Is there a lot of dancing in the ensemble?
I've been dancing for 14 years, but I've never taken any ballroom classes, so would that be a problem?
What are some good songs to sing for the audition?
(I have sheet music for Thoroughly Modern Millie, Wicked, Seussical, POTO, and Legally Blonde, but I doubt any of that would be good.)

the majority dancing takes place in the second act - at the palace. There is a Gavotte, where the Pince is dancing with different "candidates", then Cinderella enters and he finishes the dance with her. Then comes the big waltz number.
Also the actors playing the mice/horses could have some dancing in the "Transformation" number.
I think as long as you are capable of doing movement and can learn dance steps... the show should be no problem.
As far as audition pieces, something comfortably in your range (there are, by the way, no extreme ranges in this show) and perhaps from another R & H show, or another of the classic era. Perhaps "Favorite Things" from Sound of Music.
Our Cinderella sang "Waiting for My Dearie" from Brigadoon - which I thought was a lovely choice. (I directed).

oh, and no belting is required in this show.....

I think I'm going to sing 16 Going on 17 from tSoM, or if not I'll sing My Favorite Things.

I agree with Melindaisy, "Favorite Things" would be great. Or "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." Neither of those are too difficult to sing.

I vote for "I Have Confidence!"
Not the other two.
They might actually show off your weakness if you don't belt them.

I have just recently finished our musical, Cinderella. (It was amazing! If you make it, you will have so much fun!)

Anywho, I can tell you that the dancing isn't too bad. It is moderate. The only thing you might have trouble with (if you're not a dancer) is the Gavotte. The dancing really depends on the director/choreographer.

As for song choices, NEVER SING ANYTHING THAT IS RECENTLY ON BROADWAY. Directors get tired of hearing things from Rent, Wicked, etc. etc. Sing something a little older or something in the same genre as Cinderella. Like, Beauty in the Beast or The Little Mermaid.
