Christopher WalkenAfter hearing the Hairspray OST in its entirety, I think Christopher Walken would be incredible as the Wizard. Who's with me? This is especially relevant, since as more and more movie musicals with less popular appeal are being made, Wicked is sort of an inevitability in the next ten years or so.

I haven't heard the Hairspray OST, but acting- and character-wise, Christopher Walken would be great! He's an excellent actor, and he can do humor very well. I'd love to see him in that role.

I don't mind who they cast as Galinda but as long as they cast Idina as Elphaba. Wicked just isn't the same without her.

I doubt she will be as good in ten years time. I'm open for anyone.

LOL
lovesinging, I hope they don't take 10 years to do the movie. Imagine a woman nearly 50 playing a 17-year old Elphaba?
I'm talking about if they do one now (like in less than 2 years) that they will cast Idina. If they wait 10 years I hope they don't cast her. She would have to play Madame Morrible lol

I think that Galinda should be someone like Reese Witherspoon (can she sing?) and Elphie could be whomever the current girl on broadway is at that point, but I would like to see Walken as the Wizard and Idina worked into it somehow
As long as Zac Efron is not Fiyero, I'm cool
I'd even be okay with 50 Cent, but not Efron

Christopher Walken would be absolutely PERFECT! Especially when the Wizard's evilness shows.

I think Cheno could be a decent pick for the movie's Galinda. As a character actress, she's become increasingly prevalent these days, acting in so many of the "washed-up comic actor trying to resusicate their career with a quickie summer/winter comedy" b-movies these days (RV, Deck The Halls, Pushing Daisies, etc). As far as Elphaba, that'll be the tough role to cast. I've heard rumours (probably just speculative thinking) that Justin Timberlake is a possibility for Fiyero, and I wouldn't be entirely opposed. As a singer, he's not wonderful, but certainly has the pop sound Fiyero requires (although perhaps not the lower, dark smokiness some Fiyeros have given it). As an actor, he's growing and developing fairly well. Other lines of gossip suggest Elijah Kelly... maybe? I don't know.

I see Elijah Kelly as Boq for sure. Did anyone see him in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?

You're thinking of Elijah Wood- the actor from Lord of the Rings and Everything Is Illuminated. Elijah Kelly is the guy who plays Seaweed in the new Hairspray movie- he's the one in the running for Fiyero, supposedly. But Wood might be a wonderful Boq.

MY OWN, PERSONAL WICKED DREAMCAST
G(a)linda - Megan Hilty or Jayne Wisener (Johanna in the upcoming Sweeney movie)
Elphaba - Idina (the green can take off like, 20 years)
Fiyero - Justin Timberlake, Usher or that guy from that band
Wizard - Christopher Walken or Anthony Rapp
Boq - Elijah WOOD (frodo, not seaweed) or the blond guy in HSM (he was actually pretty good
Dillamond - Al Pacino
Nessarose - Amanda Bynes
Morrible - Sherie Rene Scott
Frex - Norbert Leo Butz (as an homage to the original)
Melina - Kristin Chenoweth ^^^
Chistery - the monkey who played Marcel on friends

Although Zac Effron as a mentally slow ape might just be my favorite casting choice out of the group.
We'll just say it's uh...method acting. Yeah...that's it....

Hmm... I'm still a major supporter of Walken for Wicked, but Al Pacino is an interesting choice. How would he be as Dillamond instead?

Woo-hoo! I was so sad when I found out she wouldn't be touring in my area...I think Idina has the best voice for Elphie's part. Just superbulous....
She must have had fun making Rent too...so #1 choice for Elphie if they mke a movie, don't care how old she gets so long she can still sing and be, well, Elphie!!!

Another thing to consider is the question of aging. How much time really does elapse in the Broadway show? The characters begin as teens and twentysomethings... how old are they when all is said and done?

They are supposed to be 17 in Act 1, and during the interval a total of 20 years pass.

So it's quite possible that we'd have Young and Old Elphaba and friends, much like Timothy Spall and Joseph Fiennes have younger actors playing them in their teen years in the Harry Potter franchise.

It's possible- a twenty-year age difference is easier to conceal on stage than onscreen, though makeup may help.

1) Because the chances that you AND your friend will get the role over professional Broadway stars are slim.
2) Because it's huge, and no one really wants to look at something that big when they're having a conversation.

You don't have to be a math whiz to know that two random girls probably won't get the two lead roles in a movie-musical over two famous Broadway stars. You just have to know what you're talking about.

If the movie is made... perhaps, more than five years from now, I hate to say it, but the chances of Idina Menzel, after what her poor voice has been through, being able to still sing like that are quite slim.
