Chorus Info?I was just cast in LSOH, but I was asked to be the assisant music director.
I'm in the process of casting each person's voice part. There are some people who have light, beautiful soprano voices, but not quite the range, and then I have one girl with a really heavy voice but who has some solid high notes. I would rather have the lighter voices as 1sts, but I need to know if I need to cast good high notes.
My question is: how high is the chorus stuff written? Is it in general pretty high, and what is the highest note that is written for the chorus?
Thanks!

There isn't a chorus part written for this show, so my guess is that the "chorus members" in your cast will be doubling the principal voices in the large group numbers. Therefore, the highest notes in the score are those that Crystal sings (which I'm guessing you are familiar with, since that is the role you are playing). I don't think the sopranos go any higher than an A, and infrequently at that. Most of the music is very mid-range (typical of the 50's-60's pop style). So I think your idea of having the lighter sopranos on the top line makes sense, with the heavier soprano voices in the middle.

Yeah, there's no chorus.

I obviously don't know the show extremely well, but I thought that Skid Row (and a few others) were chorus numbers.
Thanks for the help!

It's not written for a chorus. However, it's a fairly common practice to have a chorus of bums and the poor in the numbers Skid Row, Don't Feed The Plants, and the finale of The Meek Shall Inherit.

Yeah, I was planning on adding them in there.
It was not I, but the musical director, who decided to add the chorus.
Thanks again for all the help!

chorus-wise, i believe the highest note is a high B-flat at the end of "Skid Row" which is sung by Crystal
