Choreographing "Guys and Dolls"

Well I got the official word one of the High School's in my town is going to do "Guys and Dolls" this coming spring and I was asked to be choreographer. I can't wait!! I love "Guys and Dolls"!!! it's in my top five favorite musicals!!

So I got some questions for any other people who have choreographed and/or directed "Guys and Dolls".

How many "Hot Box Girls" did you use? Was it easier with more or less girls?

How many people did you use in the "Havana" dance? Was it easier with more or less people?

Did you have "Nicely-Nicely" dance in "Sit Down" with the cast or just stand and sing with small movements?

What numbers did you have the hardest time choroegraphing? The easiest time?

I last did this show in the mid-90's, so I'll go with what I think I remember:

How many "Hot Box Girls" did you use? Was it easier with more or less girls?
We had 6 hot box girls. It's always easier to get cast member in unison with smaller numbers, but with a high school production, it seems unlikely that you'll have that option.

How many people did you use in the "Havana" dance? Was it easier with more or less people?
I think it was 8 couples, plus a couple of waiters that didn't dance. Again, unison is achieved more easily with fewer people.

Did you have "Nicely-Nicely" dance in "Sit Down" with the cast or just stand and sing with small movements?
None of the cast did major dance in this number. Arm-ography for the part where they're in the mission, and then some dance in the scat section. But Nicely did even less than they did - he was an accent, not a dancer. But our Nicely weighed around 360lbs, so he wasn't going to be any major dancing regardless. If you have a talented Nicely, then I'd use him.

What numbers did you have the hardest time choroegraphing? The easiest time?
I'm a stage manager, not a choreographer. But "Luck be a Lady" has to be a real show piece of the show, and since it is usually all guys (which means, usually, less talented dancers) it can be a challenge. Havana also had some issues, just because the freezes and poses had to be quite precise.

I Choreographed this show along with the director and the help of Allie! I believe we used between 8-12 Hot box Girls! And It worked out Perfectly, Id say keep it at an even number!

We Had 8 Havana Dancers(icluding Myself) 4 guys and 4 girls! It was just enough without taking up the whole stage!

Our Nicely Nicely didnt dance too much cause hes not much of a dancer type. But He mostly Stood on Benches and told the story with minimal Movement!

Our Hardest choreography/choreographed song was either The Crapshooters Ballet, which ended up being mostly me dancing with some backup guys , thats probably the toughest one, cause we didnt have to many male dancers!

Thanks.

I think I might stick with 6 or 8 hotbox girls.

My plan is to get a few different dance genres int othe show.

Tap
Jazz
Latin
Showchoir
Jerome Robbins Style
Bob Fosse Style
Waltz
and possibly Swing if i can fit it in somewhere
