Choreographers/Dancers: What is dancing a la Orientale?During the telephone dance in the 1987 revised script of Cabaret (and possibly other versions, too), a boy and a girl are to "dance 'a la Orientale,' with lips pressed together, for nine bars, before they finally breathe."I've searched through various libraries and video websites to find nothing resembling the dance mentioned above. Does anyone know what dancing a la Orientale looks like (the footwork and all that)? Thanks!!! PS Sorry for the double post, but I figured someone who wasn't looking at the Cabaret Forum (but looking here) might know. |

My understanding is that it is a middle-eastern form of dance, like belly-dancing. But I don't understand the stage directions either. I think they mean basic "dirty dancing", or belly dancing with two acting as one.
