Choreographer needs infoHi. I just took the job of choreographing this show for a community theater group.
Could somone please tell me what are the big choreographic numbers? Single, couple, small group or ensemble? Are there any good links that would help me to get a handle on the scope of the task before me?
thank you all

The big ones are:
76 Trombones- Full Cast
Marian the Librarian- Dancers
Shipoopi- Dancers
The Sadder but Wiser Girl- Marcellus and Harold
Some of the smaller ones with more "movement" than dance are
Iowa Stubborn
Ya Got Trouble
The Wells Fargo Wagon
Good luck with this show! It is one of my favorites!

Thanks Mimi (love your avatar pic BTW).
One more thing. How close is the Robert Preston/Shirley Jones DVD version of the show to the stage musical? Is there a better version I should buy to see/hear the real show?
Best wishes Mimi.

Pretty darn close, except Marian sings a song called "Being in Love" in the place of My White Knight, and they moved the Shipoopi to later in Act 2 (in the movie). My director liked it there so we moved ours to the same place. it's more of an Act Builder that way, helping build towards the end, than if it was in the beginning of Act 2 like in the script.
I could barely tolerate the broderick/Cheno version, so I can't say if htat is closer to the script or not
Our show had sort of a 'young dance chorus', that did all the major dancing, I think it was 4 couples, and then 2 of them did the ballet before the bridge scene in act 2. They were also the teens of the town and included Tommy and Zaneeta. general chorus has to do a little like Mimi mentioned.

I agree (although my director didn't). It just bothers me that when the audience sees it, it's in rehearsal. Ya' know?
Anyways, the old movie is sorta' similar. The newer one is as well. They both changed different things, but as choreographer, they should've given you a script!

Thanks! It's me in The Most Happy Fella. Fun stuff! Like everyone else has said, the movie is pretty similar to the show. The original version of the movie is probably closer than the new one. Good luck with it! I'd love to hear how it all goes!
