Chicago??Hi all!
I'm going to up to Chicago on Sunday, June 18th to see Madonna. . and we're hoping to get into Wicked's rush lottery in Chicago.
I was just wondering if anyone has done the lottery recently, and if the turn-out has been as ridiculous as it was when it first opened?
Any info about the Chicago production would be appreciated. . your thoughts on the show, lottery, etc. . I'm one of those dorks that likes every bit of information I can get about something before I go. .
Yeah, but I was just wondering if it'll be incredibly difficult to get rush tickets. .
Thanks for any info in advance!

You can go to Old Orchard in Skokie to "hot tix" and try to get the half price ones for the day of...It works the same way as the Time Square one in NYC. But its not a garentee that you'll get them. And if you are visiting and don't have a car Old Orchard will be hard to get to (its a big giant outdoor mall in a suburb, though not that far away) ABout the show itself, I think it pretty much kicks the broadway ones ass

Well, I think the Chicago Wicked cast is just about the best! Kristoffer Cusick is the best Fiyero and Kristy brings SUCH a great personality to Elphaba. Stacie is really perky as Glinda, but hey...that's who Glinda is. Telly is an AWSOME Boq and Heidi is probably my favorite Nessarose. I do believe that you would like the Chicago cast, and probably find that it is WAY much better than the production on Broadway.

i think the main question here is why you would want to see Madonna...

As I don't live near enough to Chicago to particuarly care to pay attention to attendance records I believe it's still selling really well. Though Chi Town OC was the best... Kate is perfection and Gasteyer is amazing. Anyone else is sub standard ESPECIALLY Madonna.

Ugggh. . I didn't ask for opinions on Madonna.
Trust me, I used to be just like you guys. . 14 and totally in love with musicals and nothing else. . trust me. . your tastes will change over time.
Anyone who likes the large-scale productions of broadway musicals would see the theatrical presention of Madonna's shows as exciting. I personally enjoy HUGE production shows, and I'm looking forward to the Madonna concert just as much as I am "Wicked". . in fact "Wicked" was an afterthought for "while we're there. . "
But regardless, thanks for the info.

Unlimiiiiiiiited. .Wow.
I had no idea the Chicago performance of "Wicked" was going to be sooooo good.
We got to the Borders early last Sunday and my friends and I all put our names into the hat hoping to get some decent seats, and my friend Jaime got her name pulled. Since my friend and I were in from out of town, Jaime gave us her front row tickets. . and the whole show was so wonderful.
I'm currently obsessed with Stacie Morgain Lewis. . she blew Kristen Chenowith out of the water as Glinda. . She was so full of energy and her "heart-of-gold-bubbly" personality made Glinda much more likeable IMO. Her "Popular" had my friend and I rolling in our seats. . and watching her try to teach Elphaba how to "toss toss' her hair just had us snickering uncontrollably. Her body-acting is perfect.
I thought Kristy Cates did a wonderful Elphaba as well, I couldnt' really compare her to Idina because they're performing styles and their take on Elphaba was SO different. Idina played her as a tragic diva, where as Kristy Cates seemed to play her more as an awkward teenager. . both are really great ways to play it. . but I was a bit more convinced by Kristy's performance. . even though Idina is my hottie-bo-bottie. I loved Kristy's "LOOK TO THE WESTERN SKY!!!" during DG. . she did it in this lower grumbly exorcist-style groan that just sent chills down my spine.
I was excited to see Carole Shelley as Morrible because I'm so used to hearing her voice on the soundtrack, and she definitely didn't disappoint. She just embodies the role of Morrible. . you forget she's someone else entirely.
So yeah, if you haven't seen the Chicago cast, and you have the opportunity, I highly recommend it. I've never seen such a talented group of people coming together on something like this.

Not gonna lie, that freaked me out the tiniest bit. Mostly because I had this mental image of Linda Blair going up on the cherry picker screaming, "IT'S ME!!!!!!!!!" Glad you enjoyed the Chicago cast though . Carole Shelley is amazing.

I went to Chicago on Sunday and my mom and I both got called at the lottery, so we were able to take my whole family to front-row-center seats . . God, the show gets better and better every time I see it.
I was inititally really sad that Stacie wasn't there. .but her u/s was really good. She was more of a Cyndi Lauper than a Reese Witherspoon, but she took her own spin on the role, while still incorporating the things about Stacie's performance that I loved.
Kristy was ON . . it was great. I couldn't stop shouting for her (in between songs of course). . that woman just blows me away.
I honestly don't care that she doesn't have Idina's pipes. . because Idina doesn't have her acting abilities. Her "awkward" face is PERFECT.
My family was completely bowled over by the performances. They had never seen a professional theatre production before, and they walked out with ear-to-ear grins.
We waited by the stage door, and I got to meet Rondi Reed, she was very gracious. We left before Kristy came out, because when "Fiyero" and "Glinda" came out, I was swamped by 14 year olds, and I didn't feel right pushing them out of the way LOL.
The Chicago cast recently had more dates added, so it doesn't seem to show any signs of stopping any time soon.
Now, I just have to wait for "The Pirate Queen" and "The Color Purple" to get there!
