Chicago Australia

I am so happy!

Chicago will be touring Australia in 2009, opening in March.

And guess where it's premiering? QPAC!
theatre4life

i know nothing of locations, but kudos! are there any "names" in the show, or would we have to be australian to know any of them?

you'll love the show - if you havent seen it live, that is. Applause

What do you mean 'going'? It's been global for years. It's supposed to be ten years since the last tour I think. Or maybe just since the last time in Brisbane.

Oh, and QPAC stands for Queensland Performing Arts Centre. It's in Brisbane and houses several theatres including the Lyric.

im sorry let me rephrase that "slowly gaining world domination"

excuse me for improper world selection.

AGGGG!!!!!! THIS IS EVEN MORE EXCITING THAN AVENUE Q!!!! I've waited to see this show for ages!!!!! Applause Applause Applause Applause
Queensland is an odd place to premiere though, (I'm just spoiled because things usually open in Melbourne, or Sydney then to Melbourne).
I wonder how long it will take it to get to Melbourne
Mungojerrie_rt

It's not that odd. It's the third biggest city in the country and musicals are often more successful here the in other cities.

Plus Brisbane is just better! Cool

Do you know who any of the cast is?
Mungojerrie_rt

The article says auditions on the 19th of October, so I doubt there is a cast yet.

Is there anything coming to Sydney soon?
Mungojerrie_rt

Dunno. My Fair Lady possibly. I think Brisbane was it's second stop.

There was a big ad in Saturday's Courier Mail. It had Roxie. Didn't recognise the person in it though. It might not have even been the current one.

No cast officially yet, they would be using existing promotional shots from other productions around the world. I've heard that it will be Caroline O'Connor as Velma again, which is fantastic as long as she's not tired of the role! And there are very, very much unsubstantiated murmurs that Tina Arena may reprise her turn as Roxie.
nabla

Uugh not Tina Arena! Caroline O'conner is a great performer though.
I was scoping the show out on the internet the other day and the ads i saw used old pictures.

EDIT: I wrote new instead of old for some reason Razz

I know opinions are divided on Tina, but there were many who thought she did it quite well in London. And let's face it, she'll sell tickets (it is only 10 years since the same production toured here).

Caroline is made for the role. I saw it twice during the last run and her energy put the rest of the cast to shame - most of whom were probably half her age! I think Chloe Dallimore should be given a go as the 'real' Roxie (she was the understudy/alternate last time and she was MUCH better than Chelsea Gibb!)
RuthieRocks

Say what you must about Chelsea as Roxie but she was for sure one of the foxiest Roxie's ever...

For the record, I liked her.

I love your avvy by the way Applause

I know Debora Krizak (ulla understudy - the producers) has a leading role, just dont know which.... oh she is my aunty!

this is on the qpac website and its states that

Caroline is Velma
Sharon Millerchip is Roxie
Craig Mclachlan is Billy
And
Gina Riley is Mama Morton

Im sooo going to see it!
nabla

Gina Riley has an amazing voice, but i struggle seeing her as anything other than a comic character...
and OMG Craig McLachlan as Billy? The people in casting do realise that you don't have to be a D-list australian celebrity to star in a musical don't they? my god...
Mungojerrie_rt

Huzzah! I really want to see Sharon Millerchip. But I guess it means I won't get to see her has Columbia now.

... Considering she's already left Rocky Horror Wink

Gina Riley actually has a reasonable list of credits in straight and musical theatre. I think she'll be amazing as Mama.
