JOSEPH
I think Joseph is about mid-twenties... must be the strongest actor and singer of the bunch. He goes through a great change in the show. At the beginning he could almost be seen as arrogant, but after his brothers sell him to be a slave, he becomes humbled. He sings "Any Dream Will Do," "Jacob & Sons/Joseph's Coat," "Joseph's Dreams," "Close Every Door," "Go Go Go Joseph," "Poor Poor Pharao," "Song of the King," "Pharaoh's Dreams Explained," "Stone the Crows," "Joseph All the Time," and "Any Dream Will Do (Reprise)/Give Me My Colored Coat."

NARRATOR
Usually played by a young woman. The personality of the character is completely up to the actress, and the Narrator sings in (I think) every song except "Any Dream Will Do" and "Those Caanan Days."

JACOB
Joseph's father, usually played by an older man. He only sings in "Jacob & Sons/Joseph's Coat," but he is also present in the Finale.

THE BROTHERS
Joseph has 11 brothers, and are probably all in the 20-35 age range. Often, women have to double as brothers, especially in community theatre/school productions. The brothers sing in "Jacob & Sons/Joseph's Coat," "Joseph's Dreams," "Poor Poor Joseph," "One More Angel," "Those Caanan Days," "Benjamin Calypso," "Joseph all the Time" and "Any Dream Will Do (Reprise)/Give Me My Colored Coat." The featured brothers are Benjamin (who doesn't sing any large solos), and Reuben (who sings solos in "One More Angel" and "Benjamin Calypso").
EDIT: Judah sings the solos in Benjamin Calypso, not Reuben.

PHARAOH
Pharaoh is typically an Elvis impersonator. He is the ruler of Egypt. He sings in "Song of the King," "Pharaoh's Dreams Explained," "Stone the Crows" and "Joseph all the Time."

POTIPHAR
A rich man that buys Joseph as a slave from the Brothers. Usually played by a bigger man in his 40's. He only appears once, in "Potiphar."

MRS. POTIPHAR
The wife of Potiphar. She seduces Joseph in "Potiphar" and never appears again.

THE WIVES
The 11 wives of Jacob are basically the women's chorus (except in the Pharaoh scene). They sing in "Jacob & Sons/Joseph's Coat," "Those Caanan Days," and appear in "Any Dream Will Do (Reprise)/Finale"

CHILDREN'S CHORUS
The children's chorus is in every song, I believe. They are basically a choir in the background. Often they dance, but don't do anything throughout the show besides provide extra vocal support. The Narrator tells the story to the choir for the course of the show.

I believe that's everyone... I did this all from memory, so there are probably tons of mistakes in there. Anyways, hope I helped a little bit! Very Happy
music is my life!!!

there's only 2 female "roles" in this show - the narrator and mrs potiphar. even so, both roles can be played by dudes, but that pretty much makes it a guys' show, which isn't the aim.

Narrator: In act one, has a massive part. sometimes played by a guy. sometimes more than one actor and written in harmonies. what every girl will be going for, if they don't wanna be stuck in the chorus. witty and funny.

Mezzo/Sop with huge range and belt, needs to carry the show. must be able to cut across the theatre and everyone in it.

Mrs Potiphar: sometimes played by a dude for comic effect. probably would be a "wife" if played by a girl, or a "brother" if played b a guy.

Wives: Lots of dance. 11 of them. sing in harmony.

no probs! btw, in act 2, the narrator has the odd line in songs, not huge chunks, like in act 1
