[Eponine93]

I wasn't sure to put this in the Les Miz thread or Miss Saigon, but I figured most Miss Saigon heads know Les Miz and not all Les Miz fans know Miss Saigon. Anyway.... here goes....

Has anyone noticed character similarities between the Engineer in Miss Saigon and Thenardier in Les Miz? They're both crooked characters looking for a quick buck added for comic relief. I would like to say all of their main songs sound similar, but then again, I hate listening to "Master of the House", "Dog Eats Dog," "If You Want to Die In Bed," "The American Dream" ect. so I can't say for sure. I do think "The American Dream" from Miss Saigon and "Dog Eats Dog" both come at similar spots with similar meanings and themes of desperation, poverty and sleazy lifestyles. Has anyone else noticed the similarity of these two greasy characters?

well yeh, I get what your saying you could also argue the resemblance in character between Fantine/ Kim or even Eponine/ Kim

I feel the same way (hi everyone, by the way, as this is only my second post here).
Fantine and Kim both gave birth to children who weren't planned and/or really "wanted" by anyone, and died in the process of wanting/because they wanted the best for their child. And I'm sure there are many more similarities, but that's of course the most obvious one...
As for Thénardier and the Enigneer, I agree, and I can relate to how you feel about the songs, Eponine93. Those songs are also my least favs from the two shows.
