Character QuestionI haven't done a musical in several years (went to a college that wasn't into them), but I saw a listing for a community theatre production of Into the Woods this summer and am thinking about trying out. My boyfriend is a singer and is also going to try out! We're both trying to figure out which roles to focus on... help us if you can! We both want parts that are fun and challenging, but not necessarily leads.
ME:
I am almost 5'11" and am 22. I am curvy with shoulder-length brown hair. I can play 18-35 and enjoy character roles most. My most comfortable range is alto to mezzo, but I can hit the highest notes for all of the females in this show. I played Jack's Mother in high school and had a ton of fun... but I look too young to play that role in a cast with real adults. What roles would be best for me to try for now?
HIM:
He is 27 and is 6' tall. He is very muscular with long black hair, so I think Jack is out. He could play 20-40. He has an unfairly huge range, so he could sing any role in the show... his favorite roles in other shows are The Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors and Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. What roles would he have the most fun with?[/b]

You: Cinderella. I'm not sure as to the voice range though.
Him: Either Prince.

You would make a good baker's wife, I think. Your boyfriend would be good as either Cinderella's prince or the wolf. Actually, it would be funny if he was Cindy's prince and you were the baker's wife because then you could have a little onstage affair.

I think you'd make a fabulous Baker's wife! I absolutely adore that role. I'm so excited that my High School may do Into the Woods next year.
Good luck!
