Character descriptions and audition songs?Hi there.
A local company will be putting on this show in the upcoming season, and I was just wondering what types of parts were open for a younger (read: late teenage.. not child) mezzo/legit soprano..and also what audition songs are recommended, or what shows should one look into to find audition songs?
What is the style of the music, time period, etc.

There are two female roles, Florence and Svetlana, both can be from their mid twenties to mid thirties (It depends on the men in the two lead roles). Florence is the mezzo-soprano female lead. Svetlana (mezzo as well) is a supporting role, but only has 1 or 2 songs and isn't important 'til Act II.

I think.. that even though it's a long shot, and I may be too young for the part.. that I'm going to try for Florence. Could anyone give me a bit more of a detailed description?
reading the synopsis, I'd try for svetlana, but, I'm assuming the character should look more of Russian decent than I do.
Also.. Audition songs, do any of you have ideas? Any of you that've played the part.. what did you use?

Just played her once.
and yes..Florence cannot in her mid or early twenties. the show is set the 1980s during the end of the cold war and florence fled Romania in 1956.
Anatoly is in his early 40s..florence and fredy..early to mid 30s.

Age could be a problemIf this isn't too late I'd concentrate on being one of the people in "pop choir". You'll be one of the busiest people on stage and it's a lot of fun. I would guess that you'd be too young for Florence...

alot of productions have them as 30 year olds but cast them as 20 year olds for a more younger passonite chemistry between the three leads. unfortunatly a 20 year old Freddy is rarely promising in vocal maturity.
