Changes to numbers and directionI'm very pleased to be aware of the various versions of numbers in CATS, because Andrew Lloyd-Webber and the creative team revised numbers through the productions. However, apart from the musical changes I'd like to discuss some of the changes to the structure of movements, but yet they seem to have consistent directions.
It's wonderful that the cartwheels at the end of Mungo & Rumpel have been remarkably consistent, and I'm glad that some of you have mentioned that even in ALW's revised setting of the number, the choreography borrows from the number as it was originally staged in London and works well in this version, with slight alteration. And perhaps I ought to mention that even if Old Deut's song begins with Tantomile singing "I believe it is Old Deuteronomy" rather than the verse proper, it's good that some of the cats say "Old Deuteronomy" before anyone starts to sing.
But are there any more examples of changes in musical numbers and consistent movements? I've thought about the Growltiger sequence when the Siamese prepare to attack the barge just as Growltiger and Griddlebone are getting ready for their "last duet". Have they always used the couch for Griddlebone to sit on before Growltiger starts to sing? I know they use it in the UK tour with Billy M'Caw, but would it work well in productions that use In una tepida notte, and have they used it before? I think the couch as a prop during Growltiger would work well in all productions so that Griddlebone doesn't need to crawl on the stage. But, in the opera parody, Growltiger doesn't need to imagine that Griddlebone's leg is like a piano on which he can play.

I agree. And all three times I've seen the CATS Tour V, they have not used the couch for Griddlebone to sit on. She was crawling on the stage. But I do remember that the last time I saw the tour(last January), GrowlTiger actually gave Griddle the BIRD! After he flipped up her dress and she ran off, he plain and clearly stuck up the forbidden finger. I was appalled.(?spelling?) I thought the whole number was very RAUNCHY for a family show.

I've seen far worse than the "stinkfinger". In Düsseldorf they were doing obvious stuff during the Ball. Since I saw the shows in a row I thought "well, maybe because this is evening show". The day after it was afternoon show and there were kids beside me and I ... so felt like covering their eyes. Luckyly they were focused on Vic and Skimble and didnt glance past to Tugg and Bomba. I think it depends on the actors/location/etcetera, but... JP, you naughty boy!

Also, sorry if this doesn't completely go with this, in the video, there is some VERY raunchy behavior- even with the older cast members. Next time you watch it, when you look in the background in almost every song there is one bad thing or another!
