Changed (Once Again)

Lovely. Just lovely.

I've just discovered that for my audition for Once Upon A Mattress at the end of February, all those auditioning for leads are encouraged to use songs from the show! I suppose this wouldn't be to bad, except I've been working these past two months to choose songs not from OUAM. Oh well, I guess. -.-

I need two songs, one a ballad, one uptempo, a selection of 16-bars from each. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have no real preferrence as to playing either Winnifred or Larken, as I can do both alto and Soprano. Due to this, I would rather like to do one of Fred's songs and one of Larkens, which highlights my abilities for either.

Please and thank you ^^

You need an up-tempo and a ballad from the show??? Theres not really "ballads" in OUaM....Well I know everyone does it but I did "Shy" for my first OUaM audition (and at all the callbacks) and I got Winifred. You gotta be able to belt it out there though. The best 16 bars of that would obviously be starting from "I've always been, SHY" and so on. I don't think it will matter if its done a lot at auditions since they are having you do stuff from the show. That would be my vote for a Fred song. You can show off your amazing acting abilities and stuff for that after you get cast, just show em you can belt your brains out (a lot of people say you should do a song you can act more in, but usually at first calls they just want to see if you can sing, plus theres a lot more acting involved in that song than people think). For a ballad...What about instead of doing a Larken song you do "Very Soft Shoes"? Obviously an octave higher than its written. The Jester is so often played by a female that would probably be alright. But if you aren't down with that your only choices for Larken songs are her parts in Yesterday I loved you and In a Little While as theres not really enough of her part in Normandy to do alone. I'd go with Yesterday I Loved You if you want one of those.

I would sing one of Winnefred's songs other than shy.

Even though Shy would probably give the most character. The only problem with shy is that it's an overdone audition song, and even more so in an audition when you sing from the show.
