Cats Turn TableMost Cats production invole a turn table in the set.
Can anyone tell me what they use it for?

The only production I've seen that used a turntable was the London production. Since a curtain is not used, it was rotated during the overture to reveal the junkyard set. In all the other productions I've seen, the set was stationary.

What did the audience see prior to the rotation?

I can't remember exactly, since it was five years ago. Nothing specific comes to mind, but since it was the area where Old D spends most of his time, it might have been the outside of the fence around the junkyard. That way, most of the set was hidden from the audience until it turned.

You saw the back of the junk heap! More junk, essentially. Poor ushers, constantly dealing with people complaining about their view of the stage being blocked from their seats... They must have had so much patience to constantly say "It's ok sir, once the show starts it will move out of the way..."
