if you think about it the show closed some 9 years ago. that is sorta a long time off broadway. ya never know
dolbinau

I think if they found an Audience any show should be revived..

Not much point, what with Trokita Tour going around.
Salome

the show lasted 20 years too long the way it is.

and 9 years isnt a long time.. some brillaint shows like Lil Abner or High Spirits have never had a revival at all..why revival crap like Cats.
Monsieur D'Arque

High Spirits certainly deserves a revival.

But the trouble with Lil' Abner is that Lil' Abner and Dogpatch have left the public consciousness. They're not a part of common understanding anymore- people wouldn't respond to it the way they should, seeing as they have no more familiarity with the very concept of who the characters are.
Salome

I disagree. enough people know the characters still anyone over 30 would. plus...you dont need to know the damon runyon characters to get guys and dolls. etc etc...

*Ahem* Eighteen years on Broadway. Twenty years in Germany, the first fifteen in Hamburg. Twenty-one years on West End.

And the record goes to... Budapest! Twenty-six years and counting. Non-replica show though.

Just in case you were wondering. Wink

CATS IS A GREAT MUSICAL. IT IS NOT CRAP. IT IS PURE GENIUS!
Monsieur D'Arque

The Guys and Dolls thing, though- those characters are today most known for Guys and Dolls, which has become something of a cultural staple. Damon Runyon is essentially forgotten except in literary circles, but thanks to constant referencing on television, especially The Simpsons or Family Guy lately, Guys and Dolls is very familiar to the non-Runyon-loving public.
